Introducing Discussionist: A new forum by the creators of DU

Just finished reading My Beloved World by Sonia Sotomayor.

It was the first book I downloaded to my new IPad. I have a new heroine. She is an amazing, remarkable, person. She has earned her way to where she is now, out of poverty, predjudice, even dealing with an incurable serious health condition, through her inexhaustible energy and willpower, intelligence, humility, and powerful desire to serve others. It is an fascinating read.

4. I love it!

Easy on the eyes...adjustable...I can read it anywhere! If you do decide to purchase the Paper White, you'll have no regrets, as long as all you want is an e-reader.

5. Well...

I figure I'll read the classics on the E-reader. I don't need to borrow books from the library on the kindle because it's just next door to me. And I already have a large personal library. But it'd be nice to travel with, or sneak in with to boring events. A three pound book is hard to lug around sometimes.

6. Exactly!

I also find the kindle easier to read in bed...it is so light!

7. Are you concerned about it being wiped out by amazon?

Heard they get rid of your books sometimes.

10. That giant file cabinet in the sky...

cloud computing... I am so far from computer literate it is shameful, but I know you can send things there, and retrieve them. The paper white, perhaps all kindles now, can store things in the cloud for later retrieval....I've only had mine a few months.... Also, I'm pretty sure if a book is ever lost you can re-download it. I have always found Amazon a pleasure to deal with... My new mac always asks if I want to send stuff to the cloud...Like I said, I am a technology idiot...I wish I could be of more help.

Oh yes....My dictionaries on my Paper White are stored in the cloud....

11. I'm a bit more literate...

Because I'm young, my dad's a computer programmer and so is my husband. I've always had immediate tech support! Husband explained...

It's similar to a external hard drive that stores things. It's just amazon storage that stores your junk basically.

My husband's ex-boss (we call him Cheeto) mentioned once that the website that didn't actually exist (long story) was "in the cloud." Palm face on that one. "It's not on the cloud it's on that server right there!" Except my husband never said that since he wanted to keep his job at the time. Cheeto just heard about cloud and decided that they had that.

Cheeto also once looked up words in the dictionary to sound smarter while only using words that start with C. I couldn't understand a word of what he wrote, and it wasn't for a lack of vocabulary. Too many funny stories about that guy. Too stupid to function almost. If I ever thought myself dumb, I was very wrong about that and he's the proof.

12. Hey thanks!

I love it when someone who understands something explains it...I have a clearer idea of 'the cloud' now.

14. Read the book recently and really enjoyed her stories.

Had to wait thru 250 people on the list at the library, but worth it.

She has such a real connection to her family and she has such a passion for making a contribution. Liked her and the book lots.

15. Agree!!

Had to wait three months on the list at the library, but that is good news. Means people are reading the book. I was glad to learn more of her. Join in the recommendations above.
