1. It is a funny sketch but...

the racial slur of 'cracker' could have been left out. Not to mention the same old tired stereo type of an 'angry black man' is a stereotype that should be left to die, or get into the subtle plays like the excessive light pancake make-up (kind of reminds me of the old 'black-face' vaudeville performers) etc.
.
Simply amusing to most but, thought provoking to those who choose to look a little deeper.

3. Men and women of color have LOTS to be mad about.

And well they should be until the promise of a 'color blind' nations is true, which I don't really see on the horizon.

And now the "color" part applies to pink folks like me and, I'm guessing... you.

I didn't notice any 'light' pancake on either actor. You think their complexions were lightened? I don't know. Don't care, if that's what they want to do.

5. You assume

quite wrongly about me being pink.

Try HD if you want to see the pancake make-up.

One does not have to be 'pink' to see the subtle offenses in this video.

4. Both of these guys are bi-racial......

so I'm not sure about the makeup.....

But I will say, as much as the other side gets racial when it comes to this President,
I want folks to note that this wasn't the President speaking,
and so when dealing with comedy by 3rd parties, anything goes without it having to be justified to its moral correctness.....because what the Translator was saying is what an awful lot of Black folks I know, including myself at times, wish this President could say....although we know that would never happen. That's what makes this funny.

6. And this...

"saying is what an awful lot of Black folks I know, including myself at times, wish this President could say" is the sort of mindset that makes the average racist think that because of his race, the man we see in front of the cameras as POTUS is just an act because a man of his race does not really act or think that way.

Does nothing but fuel the fire really instead of helping the people evolve socially to the point where race does not become the issue every time. Plus that old 'angry black man' stereotype that so many want to believe, does not need to be re-inforced as the absolute reality. That does NOT make it funny.

7. Well, I thought it was hella funny,

and I don't give a rat's ass as to what the "average racist" thinks......
and I'm surprised that you would be so "concerned" about that....
to the extent that you would believe that everything we say or do (or that a comedy team does)would ever really matter to them anyways.

Perhaps Pres. Obama has taken on the task of being the Jackie Robinson of politics, and I admire that about him, but......that's him taking that burden on.....not me, and certainly not a comedy team!

I would submit that reasonable Folks (black or otherwise) have the same right to get fucking angry as anyone else, especially considering what has been going on with certain "average racists" fueling the fire of hatred and stereotypes day in, day out forever based on lies! If laughing in order not to cry bothers you, then so be it.

2. I thought it was funny.

Seems to me a big part of it, probably unintentional, is that the angry guy with, let's say 'less than presidential' language is what the rednecks and, yes, crackers*, see whenever the President speaks.

Sort of like BillOrally going to that Harlem restaurant and expecting, "YO, MF, gimme some iced tea!"

I was actually surprised, though, to see "Obama" interact with the other character, but maybe I thought he was imaginary, ie, Obama's thoughts, or "what the President really means."

* I can say "Cracker" because I was brought up to be one. My family is terribly disappointed. "Now, why cain't white folks say..." OK, by now everyone knows where that one goes, but I heard all kinds of racist shit at the dinner table for years. Still do when they want to rile me.

9. Okay...this is kind of funny...

I understand the concern of the "angry black man" stereotype. But, some days, I am an angry black woman. You'd be right to pin that on me. I get angry sometimes. Just because I smile and nod and say thank you, doesn't mean the thought hasn't occurred to me, that I'd really like to say something else, but I'm holding it in. I think the President is in an awkward position. He can't look angry because people will be afraid he looks angry and fulfilling the stereotype. At the same time, even on DU, you have people complaining that he needs to grow a pair.

Good grief. At some point, it has to be alright to be you. I see the video as satire. I don't see it as helpful or unhelpful. Just kind of funny. Because although I don't believe our President would express himself in this fashion, I fully believe sometimes he goes behind closed doors and says a heckuva a lot of things, we'd love to hear.

For the life of me, I can't understand why anyone would want to be President. Apart from the money (mediocre - for the responsibility level), and the perks, and even the power...it's a thankless job. No matter what you do somebody hates you and you're being second guessed.

It makes me smile in a..."now they're wrong for that", kind of way.
