So, it's that time of year again...just got a scam Medical Alert system phone call...

The push is to get you set up for a system someone else has purchased for you.

But the person gifting it couldn't wouldn't be identified.

This is an old scam revisited, the alert system isn't free.

The purpose of the scam is to get you signed up for the monthly service fees.

On the merits, do you think its a good system? When at my cottage, I tend to be alone and rather isolated.

I never looked into what's available. A cell phone with a speed dialer might be just as good and more versatile.

3. I have a medical alert system,

but my son pays for it. I never requested it, but since I live alone, he feels better that I have it. Fortunately, I have never had to use it.

4. I got that call

just knew it was a scam and hung up. They said they wanted to set up my new system and knew no one bought it.

5. We've gotten the call at least times from cell phones in two different states.

I called WI Department of Ag, Trade and Consumer Affairs seems not to have had any result, yet.
