We just got new cellphones. I sent this email to friends & family:

We have finally been dragged, kicking (not too high) and screaming (OK, whimpering) into at least dipping our toes into the 21st century.

We no longer have a 'family' cellphone.
We each have our very own.
Hers is red, mine is black.

No they're not 'smart' phones.
They're dumb phones.
They don't connect to the internets.
They don't surf the web or play Angry Birds.
They do take photos, but we can't send them anywhere.
We still don't text.
Did someone say 'Luddite'?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luddite
But we can make and receive phone calls.
Which about all we wanted, anyway.

Miz t.: XXX/XX-XXXX
Me: XXX/XXX-XXXX

Also new for us: We'll try to have then 'ON' most of the time, not just when we need to call someone.

We don't have unlimited minutes, so still use the land line for extended conversations. At least one of us is usually home.

We're still in the stone age without cell phones, but both of our vehicles that have On-star. That seems good enough for us. We both tried cell phones. Neither of us liked them.

So, boo-hoo, we too are out of the loop. I like it like that.

Dumb phone only, no texting. I don't even bother to take photos although my phone has that capability.

Keep it simple, stupid.

In regard to technology, the "stupid" might be me.
I can understand the new when it's demonstrated, but unless it's replicated a few times then and there, I might not retain all the intricacies long-term.

No great loss.

Maybe it is just the age thing, but I honestly don't feel any need for a smart phone. I have the internet. I have a desktop and a laptop which travels with me. I do not have a television as such, but watch the shows I want over the internet. I'm not in any way isolated from what's going on in the world. I'm actually better off because I don't get to see the dumb saturation coverage of unimportant things.

embraced the computer technology.

I'm so glad I was working in a position that I learned as the industry progressed, beginning in the 80's when we used a "dummy" -in-house- system, which gradually progressed to the internet.
It also helped that my spouse was an IT specialist from its infancy, beginning in the 60's.

It doesn't do anything but receive and send calls and has voice mail. But it is cheap and that is all I need. I am retired and home all the time, and have my internet, so I don't need a smartphone.

It's a pay as you go phone and I keep it in my car for emergencies. This is the one and only cellphone I've ever had. No, it doesn't take pictures. I have a digital camera if I want to do that and I seldom take pictures. I can text on this phone which originally cost me $20, but I think I used that function about 5 times.

I am by no means a "luddite" because I have a laptop and a computer and still work in an office where I know my way around a computer and the latest technology. I guess I'm just not that self-important that I think everyone I know wants to hear about every second of my day or see selfies of me.

I am 65 and don't have enough years left on this earth to spend them staring at a 3" screen. LOL
