Are artichoke plants thorny enough for the horses to leave them alone?

I have some seedlings and was thinking, the plants get so big, they would eat a lot of space inside the garden. But I don't remember if they are thorny enough to discourage Imelda and Leona from snacking on them.

Some varieties are more than others. I'm sure horses would eat them.

I couldn't find an image good enough to tell. Well, I'm not planting artichokes for the horses. lol Maybe I'll just plant them outside my garden but pen them in.
