Veterans or survivors who receive disability compensation or pension benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs will see a slight increase with the new year.

The VA announced a 1.5 percent cost-of-living increase to monthly payments starting Jan. 1, a news release said.

Also, the VA will end the practice of rounding payments down to the nearest dollar, as was previously required by law.

The increase applies to disability and death pension recipients, survivors receiving dependency and indemnity compensation, disabled veterans receiving automobile and clothing allowances, and other benefits, according to the VA.
