Worried about your rights?

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by krispos42 (a host of the Gun Control & RKBA group).

You should be. For those of you who worry about becoming a police state, I submit that we're most of the way there already.

If you want to fly, you have to submit to invasive search procedures.

Most of these came about because Americans were scared into believing that we needed more protection. The State used this as a pretext to implement these, and other programs like these. Not because they were evil individuals bent on dominating us - at least not in most cases - but because they sincerely believed it was for our own good.

I've already made suggestions on changes that could be made to decrease the incidence of events like last Friday. However, I draw the line at mass prohibition of weapons. My liberties are already being trampled into the dirt. I refuse to surrender the right to keep and bear arms as well.

9. The fight is lost. It probabaly should never have been fought in the first place.

The anti-gun folks who said we should have fixed it ourselves were right.

We have danced on the edge of a knife and finally slipped and fallen.

We've had shooting after shooting after shooting, but now it's 20 five, six, and seven-year-olds.

I went through the guns in my safe last night, all of them including the family heirlooms, and you know what looms in my mind as I run my hands and eyes over their old familiar contours? The death of little kids like my 4-year-old son and 6-year-old daughter in the other room.

Do I still believe in the principles of the second amendment? Yes, I do. But I just find myself increasingly unable to care anymore.

Do I really care if the government knows if I own guns? Hell they probably already do.

You see, I can't find any solace anymore in the fact that only 300 people so are killed with rifles each year. You see, the death of those 20 children has made this numbers game a joke.

The right to keep and bear arms is about to be severely curtailed. As long as I don't hear about 20 children blown away again I'm trying to be OK with that. It's time that lunatics with guns can't do this kind of thing anymore. Restrict the lunatics, restrict the guns, or do both, I'm beyond caring much anymore.
