2. I'd prefer to just unblock everybody - how about adding that as an option? (nt)

4. NO. There is a difference between rDigital and the others.

rDigital made a single error for which he has apologized. The others, Hoyt and Bongbong only posted insults and were distruptive. They contributed nothing and were never civil. Unrestrained incivility can ruin a message board.

5. No matter how much or little a person is perceived to contribute, I don't believe

that blocking is a tool that should be used in topic-based Groups (identity-based and safe haven groups are a different matter). The determination of who is and who isn't welcome is sure to be subjective, and certain to create discord in its own right. For a topic-group to be vibrant it needs to be open to all, without real or perceived barriers or inequalities of access - blocks, votes, discussion about posters, all will at the very least create those perceptions.

I generally share your perceptions of our three blocked posters, but I'm sure there are other DUers who find rDigital deeply offensive, Hoyt thought-provoking, and bongbong mordantly witty. There will never be unanimity among GC & RKBA users on this score, and I don't think majority-rules is beneficial (i.e. better than doing nothing).

Incivility is a serious issue, but we all already have the (formal and informal) tools to modify our own DU experiences. If we are unable to just gloss over a poster, we can use Ignore; when a post violates DU community standards we can Alert; when someone appears to be a disruptor we can Alert w/ToS or message admin/MIRT.

IMO, blocking and banning should be limited to the site-level (DU), not the Group level (Guns), when the Group in question is topic-oriented, and the only thing a host should really do is lock the most egregiously off-topic threads...

8. Then we must agree to disagree on this specific topic.

Our disagreement has been civil, without rancor, and leaves room for future discussions.

7. No, I rarely go to Meta.

But I ran across him in GD a few minutes ago. He is a disruptor.

9. well...

For one thing, nobody elss had asked for reinstatement. Another thing is that nobody else seems to believe in absolutely no blocking of people from the Group.

11. IMHO...

...I'd rather not have people blocked and just leave that type of maintenance to MIRT but in cases of REPEATED disruption I would say blocking is justified.

Thanks for your services as host.

3. I would support

unblocking any who ask.

Would unblocking be conditional or probationary?

10. people get blocked for being extreme disruptors

to the Group. I'd rather let the regulars decide if he or she should be allowed back in. Once back in thought I don't see any reason for conditions or probation.

14. I reviewed the offending posts, and can't see how this resultedq

in such banishment. I've seen worse which I chose not to alert on due to lack of prospect for hiding. But it's the new process.

I look forward to rDigital's viewpoints when he is reinstated. If it matters, count me as one of those opposing general amnesty; Krispos, thankfully, is not the federal gubmint, and this is still a private party.
