ILLINOIS: Quinns AWB overridden in House

SPRINGFIELD-The Illinois House dealt Gov. Pat Quinn a blow Tuesday in his bid to impose an assault weapons ban in the state.

By a 78-28 vote, the legislative chamber voted to override Quinn's rewrite of original legislation that would have made it legal for gun owners to buy ammunition online from Illinois suppliers. It's already legal to do so from out-of-state suppliers.

"It's a pro-business bill. It simply said that residents in the state of Illinois could buy ammunition over the Internet from Illinois companies. Currently, they can buy ammunition over the Internet from all 49 other states but cannot buy it from an Illinois company," said state Rep. Jerry Costello II (D-Smithton), the bill's chief House sponsor.

"The governor amendatorily vetoed this bill and put language in it that made it into an assault weapons ban. I personally believe this challenges the integrity of the legislative process, that it was unconstitutional, and I ask you join me in overriding this veto," he said. "I think it would be a travesty to let this occur to our legislative process."

The Senate had already overridden his veto. The bill is now law. This represents a kick in the teeth to the anti-gun movement and a minor victory for pro-gun folks.

1. So, why

can Illinois residents buy from, say, Cheaper Than Dirt but not some place in IL? I'm missing the logic unless there isn't a way to type in a FOID number on websites.

2. Rank stupidity is the primary reason

Our resident gun grabbers use any stunt they can come up with to make it harder to enjoy the shooting sports.

As far as I know, there's 1, count it 1, public shooting range in the entire state, built by that idiot Blago (aka Federal prisoner #4887722) and it's way the hell downstate.

As for ordering ammo, I have to send a scan or copy of my current FOID and Drivers License to Midway, CTD etc. so they can keep it on file.

Every time they expire you have to go through the whole process all over again.

If they can find a way to make it harder for us, they will. Once upon a time they would have put in an AWB with no problem, not anymore.

This bill has the gun control people really nervous and holding press conferences. Rahm is staying low so far, since he has to keep writing big ass, high visibility checks every time some asshole tells him to take on the NRA,SAF, ISRA etc.

They show the checks and remind Rahm of them every time he and Quinn tell the unions there's no money for their new contracts. I like that.
