I might rejoin the NRA just for spiteLast edited Wed Nov 7, 2012, 04:44 PM USA/ET - Edit history (1)
Membership dues do not go to the NRA-ILA, the lobbying arm of the NRA. They are strictly used to support that organization's firearm safety courses, shooting activities and for publishing of periodicals such as "American Rifleman" and "American Hunter".
I won't donate to the NRA-ILA for a couple of reasons. The first is I don't have much money to spare and the 2nd and more important reason is that a majority of candidates the NRA-ILA contributes to are Republicans. If or when I have funds to spare, I'd rather give it to DU, local charities and/or Dem candidates. The local bank has a Christmas tree upon which there are cards hanging which gives the ages of children from low income families and what they'd like for Christmas. My ex wife picked out a card for a 6 year old girl who would like a doll or a board game. I told my ex to pick out both a doll and a board game for this girl and I'd pay for it. The gun safety programs offered by the NRA I believe to be very important and worthwhile supporting and I've always found "American Rifleman" to be a good read because of my general interest in guns. If I do rejoin (I was a member for a couple of years back in the early 90's), it won't be till January the earliest because the financial obligations I have for the next couple of months prohibit me from spending $35 on an annual membership fee till then. Edit: For clarification on the "spite' part of the title, I read numerous posts here and in Meta about the promotion of "NRA talking points". I for one don't know what those talking points are. I push "kaleva talking points" and if they happen to coincide with anything the NRA is saying, it's purely coincidence.

1. Spite towards whom?

Towards your fellow DUers?
Towards liberals? |

Still not explained.
If I disagree with your stances, are you joining out of spite toward me? If I object to "NRA talking points" (your phrase, not mine), are you spending the little money you have out of spite toward me? Seems silly. And counterproductive. |

So -- is it actually spite toward the people who made those statements? I'd like the OP to be clear. |

I don't get it either. Are you joining to spite the NRA, or joining to spite Democrats, who?

In case you're wondering, the USA contribute 19, and are 83rd out of 114 troop contributors, 69 of which contribute more than 100 troops, and 27 of which contribute more than 1,000.

They stuck their neck out way too far politically. I wonder if their radical political views empowered the knee jerk extreme reactionary opposites?
There are ways to exploit them without bonding with them |
