Mississippi gun shop selling ‘Charlie Rangel’ assault rifle; AK-style weapon ‘loves the green’

A Mississippi gun shop is taking aim at Rep. Charlie Rangel's stance on gun control by selling an assault rifle named in his “honor" — and a Bloomberg edition may be coming soon.

Mississippi Auto Arms, a shop in Oxford that specializes in combat weapons, is hawking the 11-pound "Charlie Rangel Edition" Kalashnikov-style rifle for a hefty $1,195.

"Congressman Rangel's record of personal disdain for the people of Mississippi and the rights of firearms owners is clear," Nathan Yow, a local lawyer who owns the gun store, told the Daily News in an e-mail. "In my view the Congressman should expect to see his record lampooned, criticized or otherwise subjected to political satire."

"Like Rangel, this little Suchka AK rifle loves the green," a description on the shop's website says, an apparent potshot at Rangel's ethics woes.

5. No It's Not

What a ridiculous comparison.

Jimmy Carter served with honor in the Navy and as President and naming a carrier that defends our country brings honor to him.

Was that the intention here with the Rangel gun?

He said an attack sub, those go underwater, a carrier is above water carrying aircraft.
Here's a question, do you know the difference between an SSN and a SSBN?

I know he served with Honor in the Navy aboard an Attack Submarine.
This is the Boat he served on.

The USS Pomfret
SS-391

This is the Boat named for him.

The USS Jimmy Carter
SSN-23

Hell of a difference between then and now.

44. Actually it points out the problem of discussing gun control with anti gun personalities.

The anti-gun crown parrots inaccurate facts and is not interested in the truth when presented. Several anti-gun people I work with have changed their minds once they understood the facts. It's taken years but their minds have been opened. It's not like they're going to run out and buy firearms but they've learned to seriously scrutinize politicians who abuse gun owners for their political gain.

This is also why the local Democrat politicians are not rabid when it comes to gun issues.

Others are like sewers with the manhole covers welded in place.

Mail Message
At Sun Oct 21, 2012, 01:54 PM you sent an alert on the following post:

Actually it points out the problem of discussing gun control with anti gun personalities.
http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1172&pid=81048

REASON FOR ALERT:

This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate. (See Community Standards.)

YOUR COMMENTS:

Some "anti-gun people...are like sewers with the manhole covers welded in place." Over-the-top. Should we all just start calling each other names?

JURY RESULTS

A randomly-selected Jury of DU members completed their review of this alert at Sun Oct 21, 2012, 02:02 PM, and voted 2-4 to LEAVE IT ALONE.

Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: While I am a very strong gun control advocate I believe the posters childish insults are just part and parcel of "discourse" here. But, proving he's "tough" is also part and parcel of gun freaks mindsets.
Juror #2 voted to HIDE IT and said: No explanation given
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: Using an analogy is not the same thing as calling each other names.
Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: I might have phrased it a little differently, but the post is relatively accurate in its assessment.
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: An unpleasant metaphor, but not over the top at all. I see DUers call each other much worse, every single day. This is mild.
Juror #6 voted to HIDE IT and said: on reflection, agree with the alerter, calling people sewers is over the top

Thank you.

This forum has far more supporters who articulate your views (albeit mostly with disdain and dislike rather than serious discourse or argument).

Hoyt was kicked out of this forum....and I object to ANYONE being 'group gang banged' out of any forum by bullies who constantly alert posts REGARDLESS of how offensive or objectionable their posts are. I responded to someone who implied I was destined to being banned like Hoyt. How petty and small. I am not Hoyt but I'll defend his right to express his views regardless of how offensive or how much I disagree with them. I didn't read all of his posts, but be assured I suspect I know what offended most in this forum and it most certainly had nothing to do with race.

There was one poster on this forum who I vehemently disagreed with but when I sat on a jury, I supported him if not his post regarding guns. I seriously doubt that most on this group think forum would do the same for me.

I never alerted on any anti. I did alert on what I thought was a right winger once. The only thing that offended me about Hoyt was his excusing cops shooting some kids in the back, while comparing someone getting his head bashed in at a gas station with Bull Conner. Other than that, the more he ran his mouth it made his cause look bad. Look at it this way, I'm guessing Sarah Brady gets giddy while I cringe everytime Wayne and Ted say something stupid.

I never sat on a "gun" jury. All of mine were in either Meta or GD.

I have LONG been an advocate of defending the right of ANYONE to post ANY post regardless of how offensive or objectionable or even in violation of TOS. I simply think alerts are silly. I've been on dozens of juries and with few exceptions my free speech advocacy has been affirmed by most juries.

You seem to think I am 'ignorant' (nice) without offering any substantive or articulate argument to support your claim regarding guns. I'll leave others to discern who is 'ignorant.'

I have absolutely no reason to believe anything you say regarding your alerting habits or jury activities. Talk is cheap. You have shown more than a little derision towards gun owners here and seem to be incapable of sustaining a civil discussion without mashing your caps lock button and hollering about non-existent TOS violations (so much for your free speech advocacy ). You have a demonstrated lack of technical and legal understanding of firearms as it relates to the SOP of this group. Pretty much leaves little doubt to who is "ignorant"...

I suspect that the city views the area around Bolling like any other part of the city. Of course, gun violence may be higher around this military base than Georgetown, but that says more about the the concentration of guns in the area than the lack of guns in Georgetown.

83. I think it goes far deeper than that, but I felt safe in the area

even if most of the folks in the bar looked at me like I was from Mars. It isn't the number of guns, it is who has the guns. In the 1950s-1970s, knife violence would be the problem. For some reason, before Nixon's WOD, gangs used switchblades and tire chains and rarely used guns even though they were more accessible then than now. I wonder if any social scientist ever researched why. I think that would be worth reading. Probably meaningless from a policy stand point, but would be interesting.

the point is, if the gangsters have the guns, they shoot each other (and innocents because of their lack of skill) instead of stab each other. If that same number of guns were all in the hands of law abiding residents of the area, for what ever reason, then the gun violence would be nil. The trigger doesn't pull the finger.

Anti-gunners neither think nor do they seem to form effective, cohesive groups that get anything done. I'm fine with that because that means ineffective and poorly conceived "feel good" laws that do nothing to affect criminals don't get passed. You are a shining example of the "all talk, no walk" paradigm that represents most anti-gun advocacy.

14. I agree that Carter's Presidency wasn't one of America's shining moments

But the man did serve with honor and (IMO) has done more as a humanitarian since he left office than any other US President to date.

38. Bob Gates said he was underrated.

Some years ago, Robert Gates was on CSPAN's Washington Journal, a caller asked him if his experience matched conventional wisdom. IIRC, he said Ford and Carter were two of the most under rated presidents and that Reagan's administration "lacked intellectual heavyweights". I happen to agree.

39. The thing that impresses me the most about President Carter

Is his tireless work for Habitat for Humanity

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Habitat_for_Humanity#Jimmy_.26_Rosalynn_Carter_Work_Project

Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter became involved with Habitat for Humanity in 1984 and has since become its most high-profile proponent. He has been involved in fund-raising and publicity as well as actual homebuilding, taking part in the annual Jimmy Carter Work Project "blitz build".

In 2008 Habitat for Humanity celebrated the 25th annual building project with the Carters and renamed it to include Mrs. Carter. The Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project focused on supporting the Gulf Coast community seeking to rebuild after hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Despite periodic downpours, volunteers got most of the work done during one week in June to finish building and fixing 60 houses and frame 48 more.

In November 2009 volunteers joined Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter in the Mekong River region of Southeast Asia. Houses were built in the countries of Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and the Yunnan Province in China. The week-long project served nearly 166 families. It also began a five-year Habitat for Humanity initiative to work with 50,000 families across the five countries.

Everyone may not share his faith convictions but no one can tell me he doesn't put them into daily practice in his life.

53. His official biography says otherwise

Chosen by Admiral Hyman Rickover for the nuclear submarine program, he was assigned to Schenectady, N.Y., where he took graduate work at Union College in reactor technology and nuclear physics, and served as senior officer of the pre-commissioning crew of the Seawolf, the second nuclear submarine.

3. You're telling me.

The junk they're trying to foist off as a Kalashnikov. I'd have to see the internal workings, and it looks like a fine gun, but that's a Kalashnikov in name only otherwise. Plus, green? Awful color.

23. If you take off the funky colored plastic furniture, the Tapco plastic mag, and the

shorter barrel with the flash hider, it looks a lot like my $400 Romanian, which, as you point out, might not be a true Kalashnikov. At any rate, though, it appears that the gun place is trying to find suckers who will pay $1200 for a $600 dollar rifle.

Reminds me of Sarah Palin's disgusting target ads.

I think it's kinda funny given Charles Rangel's record on gun control. I wouldn't buy one but it's a great novelty piece.

26. that is before the $200 transfernce tax

"What better way to recognize this paragon of virtue than to recognize him with a green highly restricted semi-automatic AK-47 short-barrel rifle,"

The article implies the barrel is shorter than 16 inches, which means it is not regulated by the Gun Control Act or Brady Bill, so no NICS check. Before you freak, it will be regulated under the NFA, which means the background check will last about four months (depending on the backlog, the ATF has two guys doing nothing but NFA background checks) and restricted almost like a machine gun.

The more people that drop into his store, the more guns he will sell. He is getting a lot of free advertising by that gimmick.

58. they are primarily an online retailer

Mississippi Auto Arms is primary an online retailer so the internet fervor over this is certainly driving more web traffic their way. They are a fairly big retailer, I would guess they worked up and are selling a decent volume of these.

I bought my VEPR from them, shipped and was waiting at my local gun shop in three days.
