"One Bullet - One Ballgame"

Is an old school slogan for military firearms instructors. If is absolutely accurate that the individual who is capable firing one well placed round at a time in the heat of battle has the best possible chance to survive the encounter.

Differing dramatically from mounted machine guns, "Assault Weapons" are designed to be man carried, automatic, high volume, high ammunition consumption firearm that can rarely sustain continuous operation for as much as one minute due to overheating, jamming, and the shear weight and volume of bullets required. They have virtually no point accuracy and are designed to strike fear in and suppress accurate return fire from an opponent in a defensive position by an attacker attempting to seize / over run that defensive position.

No matter what it looks like, that is the very definition of an Assault Weapon.

With very rare exception, Assault Weapons have been illegal in the USA since long before I was born.

Semi-automatic firearms allow for very accurate, well aimed first round and rapid following, well aimed rounds.

A man carried, automatic assault firearm is designed as an Offensive, Fire Suppression Weapon.

A man carried, semi-automatic is a "One Bullet - One Ballgame" weapon allowing an individual to engage one or more individual targets very accurately and rapidly at extended range.

No matter what it looks like, that is the very definition of a Defensive Weapon and a very capable hunting arm as well.

1. like the bullet that killed John Lennon by that coward gun loving asshole?

with a regular bullet, John Lennon could have been repaired and alive today.

with the bullet that killed him, it destroyed every organ in his body.

fuck guns and ammo.

3. The cause of death...

...is listed as hypovolemic shock or acute blood loss. Taking four .38 caliber shots to the back, hollow point or not, would be nearly impossible to repair. Since his lungs were punctured by the shots the combination of lung tissue damage and their accumulation of blood, breathing would have been nearly impossible.

7. no, I want something that makes a bullet obsolete and a gun can be mounted like a deerhead

by those that kill deer for sport...that would be sufficient.
Make it impossible for ammo to kill. It can be done. I bet someone already knows the formula.

Imagine
I bet some of you guys would say if John Lennon had a gun he could have shot first
(even though he was shot from behind and had no idea he would be shot).
Had John done that, it occurs to me he would have lost his soul and his reason for being, doing so.
Maybe you think John should have shot every single person in his sight before the one who killed him did so and then cried free speech and he was shooting everyone in self defense.

Or maybe John should not have had his valued freedom and lived in a prison and never come out, just so that a-wipe wouldn't have had his opportunity.

As for the kids on the street with a gun, give them more than a life of crime can offer, and indeed they won't live a life of crime. (I bet at least 99%).
All most are crying out for is a chance but the only chance they have is using the gun in their hand.
Do you not think their life and their families lives are ruined as much as the person they shot?

You do realize that the vast majority of people in America have never been attacked and never were threatened with a gun.(I would venture to guess (not looking it up),more than 90% of the people in the nation or more, lots more (there are about 320 million I think.)

as of the moment-
U.S. 314,482,139 (that's 314 plus million people)
World 7,042,513,094 (that's 7 billion people)
20:26 UTC (EST+5) Sep 29, 2012

members of the NRA=4.3 million out of 7 billion worldwide people

Is it just the 4.3 million NRA members that are attacked?
310.4 million Americans are NOT members of the NRA. Guns and the NRA don't seem to be a need in those 315.7 million Americans it appears. 6 billion 9hundred and 39 million worldwide are NOT members of the NRA.

When you put it on paper, that is a very, very tiny group (much like Rush Limbaugh's similiar total audience, just with a big, big, big mouthpiece)

9. you forget

the many gun owners that are not NRA members, but if you are including NRA membership with the rest of the world:
the many different progun groups in the US and other countries:
National Firearms Association (among others)-Canada (whose membership is a small fraction of Canadian gun owners)
Koninklijke Nederlandse Schutters Associatie (Dutch: Royal Netherlands Shooters Association)-Netherlands
ProTell-Swiss
UK-NRA-self explanatory
Sport Shooter Association of Australia (they even have their own political party)
of course there are many more.

19. what is odd is- 5 bullets killed half of the nation, remember Allard Lowenstein?

The 5 bullets that were the ones that killed
JFK
RFK
MLK
JOHN LENNON
ALLARD LOWENSTEIN

among others were ones that killed not only the person the bullet entered, but the hopes and dreams and the optimism of hundreds of millions of people for decades worldwide

one bullet, look how much damage it did

to add to my comment on John Lennon above, John writhed in pain for a while, he did not die instantly, even though the bullet instantly killed any chance of his recovery.
John F. Kennedy in pain for a day, the nation for decades
Robert Kennedy in pain for hours, the nation forever
Martin Luther King foresaw his death and told the nation so

To me, the gun is like an extended family that hides someone after the black sheep does a crime and covers it up (like the 100s that covered up that awipe that killed with a gun, and with a bullet, that kind, gentle, meek doctor in Kansas, and singlehandedly stopped in Kansas a woman's right to her own body and privacy. To me, all were as guilty as the shooter who either backed or covered up that dude awipe.)

To me, that would make everyone else who has defended the killer, which was directly the gun and the bullet, part of the coverup team.

Adolf Hitler was the head of the Nazi's, and had a few higher ups under him delegate power.
How many regular German's obeyed those orders? And thankfully, the Nazi hunters over the years, to this day, even if the perps are now 90, have brought to justice thousands and thousands of Nazi's for their aiding and abetting the murderers.
It is too bad the USA does not do the same.

Maybe someone should start a slogan- a gun may be legal, but anyone using a bullet on a human being is doing something illegal and immoral, no matter which way it is spun.

And it should double down to any person in authority that is found to have abused their power and hurt or killed someone
(like say Danzinger Bridge after Katrina when blacks were lynched as if it were the 1850s again.)

and I bet there are millions of ex-soldiers, army, marines, etc. that after seeing what they did on the battlefield, would never in a zillion years pick up another weapon again.
Especially against a poor innocent beautiful deer.

One day hopefully we can have enough better security to make any and all guns stick out like a person in a movie theatre now smoking a cigarette-and something being done about it before one enters the theatre , or someone enters any block in America.
Would rather have more cameras than more guns.

In what type of insane society does one want to have a concealed gun in a bar, where people in general go there to get stupid(or are they already stupid wasting their money sitting in a bar in the first place?) get drunk, argue who is better Joe Namath or the awipe Tim Tebow and then shoot the other person with that gun they brought into the bar?

tell me again, when exactly did a gun ever save anyone or anything?
Never.
because the one thing the NRA talking point people never remember is- the stats they trot out faster than Paul Ryan covering up Mitt Romney making another boner don't tell you how many of those situations would have been difused by a bigger man(woman) just walking away.

(and in reverse, how many situations occur where say a father kills his kid in the middle of the night because the kid is peeping in a window next door with a mask on as happened the other night, one has to laugh and laugh at that irony if not for the fact that the mother is now childless and in mental anguish over the stupidness of that bozo and his gun and bullet).

It takes a coward like the a-wipe not named by me who in the back shot John Lennon and no way in the world John Lennon would have shot him in cold blood.

the moronic lie that everyone should be armed is just ridiculously comic book said by six year olds playing cowboys and indians (and of course those people were taught that indians were bad(learning racism right from the first grade, ironic isn't it.
Indians=good
Cowboys=bad
remember the indians did not come here looking to rid the new land of the cowboys did they?
and the major irony is= guns give power, yet gun lovers hate it if someone in power wants to better control the situation that has gotten out of hand.
What a bunch of hypocrites.

If it were me, the federal government should be the only one to sell a gun, and there should be NO independent gun sellers in America, and NO weapon of mass destruction should be sold at a show or on any street in America.

I mean really, would you go to a Sci-Fi show and get a REAL version of a killing prop from Star Wars?

one should not be able to buy a gun at a show, or have a gun dealer who really is in business to backdoor as many guns a week as he/she can as that is he/she's job to make money and any hinderance means less soup in the bowl.

No, I would trust the esteemed Eric Holder and the justice department to be the only ones allowed to sell a gun. (May Eric Holder become a member of the US Supreme Court in 2017 and help change the laws)
and have some great control over this.
You wouldn't walk into a store with some idiot behind the counter selling you a nuclear bomb would you? Yet in America that occurs every single day doesn't it?
Something is wrong where the seller needs the money from the buyer and checks be damned, the checks now stop a seller from making the money needed for the sellers family. That is some warpingly weird way of doing things. Can't we train that person to do something a little more better? I mean a 16 year old can't get a beer without major proof, yet Dylan and Eric were able to shoot up a school. What the hell is wrong with America?(and the radical extremists wanted every other student to have a gun to protect themselves?)
What the hell is wrong with that picture.
Hilight magazine had more sane photos in their find 8 things wrong with the picture puzzles than some people's mindframe on guns.

and guns lead to the same result, if one honestly thinks about it.

Rest in peace, and always faithful and true to Trey Martin. shot dead in cold blood after being stalked with zero weapon in his hands.

and, by the way, isn't about time to give a pardon to Joanne C.? She has been persecuted for far, far, far, far, far too long. A political prisoner. Wipe her record clean.

and by the way, bullies stick together, and putting a gun in a bullies hand is like sooooo audacious, don't you think? (and the NRA is a bully pulpit looking to do just that.)

Peace.(but of course throughout history, men of peace are shot dead because, those people scare those who do not want peace and become paranoid that someone will take their war machine(big or little) away from their hands, and it appears, without that in their hands, they do not feel whole.

as Charlie Brown would say GOOD GRIEF.

In the OP I provided a limited but extremely accurate comparison between an "Assault Weapon" and a Semi-Automatic Weapon.

BTW, an Assault Weapon does not require a a selector switch but it does allow the weapon to pull double duty.

How about a little discussion on that subject.

23. All assault rifles have a semi auto mode.

I understand you were a Marine, but I think you are wrong about this. What about Battle rifles, What about belt-fed machineguns, what about submachine guns? The "Assault Rifle" is a intermediate caliber replacement for the "Battle Rifle" a larger caliber select fire rifle. They are semi auto with fire selectors for full auto. The only exceptions would be early semi auto battle rifles like the M1 Garand, SVT40, and Gewehr 43. The M14, G3, FN FAL (unless it's british) all had fire selectors for full auto. I think you actually mean Belt fed guns like the M249 SAW, they are built for suppressive fire and have no semi auto mode. The whole reason there is one in every squad is for high volume suppressive fire. Assault rifles and Battle rifles are not built for sustained full auto fire, just for when you need it, otherwise it's always semi auto. And both are VERY accurate. M16's are the exact same rifle as a civilian AR15, the AR15 just doesn't have the full auto sear and trigger group.

25. The "Assault Weapon" definition

does not require that the weapon have a semi / full auto selector switch.

Please note, I referred to "Assault Weapons", not "Assault Rifles"

As you have accurately pointed out, the term "Assault Weapon" covers several specific designs of which an "Assault Rifle" is but one.

Concerning the M-16. In the semi-auto mode, it is extremely reliable accurate. I qualified expert with it out to 500 yards with peep sights - as was required of all Marines at the time. However, in the full auto mode and particularly when the rifleman is assaulting a defensive position, it chunks a bunch of lead, usually in one somewhat limited direction.

21. Assault Rifles have no accuracy?

Without belaboring the definitions of Assault Rifle vs Assault Weapon,

An M16 is an assault rifle, as it can be switched from semi-auto to full-auto or three-round-burst, depending on the model. An M14 can also be switched, depending on whether the company armorer has installed or removed the switch. Either one, in the hands of a good marksman, is very capable of "point accuracy", with one-shot kills over hundreds of yards. With much practice, the M16 is accurate even on full-auto. The M14 is harder to control on full-auto.

If you want something that suppresses fire, strikes fear, and has no point accuracy, I think the word is "blunderbuss".

Assault rifles, with their full-auto capability, are not outlawed in the U.S., but require an expensive permit or stamp. They are outlawed in some states.
