Bias case leads to guns
COLONIE Police said they seized four guns and a crossbow plus ammunition from the Central Avenue apartment of a deli manager who has been charged with a bias crime for allegedly threatening to shoot and kill a local businessman and Muslim from Afghanistan.
"I don't think this is systematic or part of a bigger plot," Colonie Lt. Robert Winn said about the incident that took place shortly after 11 p.m. Wednesday, a day after the 11th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks. It led to Peter Ploof, 38, being charged with three misdemeanors, including aggravated harassment under the bias crimes law. An investigation has not yielded any clues on a motive, said Winn.
Ismatullah Hotak recounted Saturday that he was outside an apartment building at 2194 Central Ave. with a male acquaintance waiting for the night food delivery for his ethnic food store when Ploof emerged from a studio apartment with a woman and a beer.
Hotak, who owns Colonie Grocery & Meat at Central and North Lansing Road across the street from the apartments, said Ploof asked him if he was Muslim, then cursed at him and told him to leave the place.
