1 Dead, 3 Arrested After 10-Mile Chase of Armed Home Invaders
After initially indicating that they were in need of directions from a homeowner near Valparaiso, Indiana, three out of the four individuals involved in the home invasion forced their way into the woman's home, kicked and punched her, threatened her at gunpoint, and stole cash and other property from her.
After the home invasion, a neighbor of the woman's, a Hammond firefighter, followed the men, LaFlower said. The firefighter called police and kept in contact with them as he followed the home invaders into Lake County, LaFlower said.
The four suspects fled into Lake County on U.S. Route 30 after the home invasion, and were followed by someone, pursuing in another vehicle, Lake County police said. At Route 30 and Colorado Street in Hobart, the vehicle the suspects were in collided with the vehicle that had been following them, and at least one of the suspects fired shots at their pursuer, hitting him in the hand, Lake County police said.
