But wait! I thought they were all penis substitutes!
http://www.wired.com/playbook/2012/07/olympic-gear-firearms/
"Though shooting competitions demand remarkably refined weapons and tremendous physical coordination, it’s a sport where mental acuity can trump a svelte body mass index or extreme physical fitness. Richmond says elite marksmanship is “95 percent mental and 5 percent physical.” “Shooting is similar to the golf stroke,” said Kevin Neuendorf, a spokesman for USA Shooting. “It’s a mastery of precision, a comfort level with that precision, and controlling every element of that precision to shoot the exact same way, time and time again.”" But I thought everyone who enjoyed shooting was just looking for a penis substitute!

The comment by the OP is a total non sequitur.
Only if you haven't been following the posts by Fortinbras Armstrong, such as these: http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1016&pid=36059 http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1016&pid=36175 Mr. Armstrong repeatedly states that people who own or carry guns are just looking for a "penis substitute". When asked if this applies to women who own or carry firearms, he refuses to answer. |

practice to shoot people. There's a big difference between those folks, and pure target shooters. Besides, when I see a gun range, a big portion of shooters are grossly out of shape, physically and in some cases...... mentally.

Besides, when I see a gun range, a big portion of shooters are grossly out of shape, physically and in some cases...... mentally.
The nice thing about competitive shooting is you don't have to be an athlete in the traditional sense of the word in order to be a great competitor. As long as you've got your eyesight, a disciplined mind and good motor control, you can compete. And of course another nice thing about firearms is that when it comes to self-defense, this same benefit applies there, as well. You can be out of shape, or confined to a wheelchair or a walker and still wield the means to effectively defend yourself against the most fit violent criminal. |

We needs test financial assistance, why not guns. You can park in designated parking for challenged, why not tell folks like you that they can't carry because they don't have a compelling reason to.
We need to start convincing the vast majority - who wouldn't carry - that folks who really don't have a compelling reason to carry, shouldn't. |

I'm glad you agree that at least the weak and infirm should have the means to self-defense.
But let me ask you this: Why are you willing to allow people in wheelchairs and walkers to have access to firearms, but not, say, women? Women are almost always physically weaker than men, and men are by far the most common perpetrators of violent crimes. But why stop with women? What about out-of-shape middle-aged men like myself? Why should anyone have to resort to a contest of physical strength against a violent attacker? |

that silhouette shooting isn't just about human shaped targets? There is a whole sport of shooting metal targets that are silhouettes of game animals but much smaller. It's usually done with large caliber revolvers. I have two of those revolvers. It's challenging and lots of fun. And no, I don't carry them and haven't killed any game animals either. I do my hunting in the meat department of the family owned store down the street.
Also, how do you know she doesn't carry or participate in silhouette target shooting? I hope you spelled that word correctly because I am relying on your spelling of silhouette. Have a good night!! |
