FYI.

I got a reply from the Admins via PM:

We think it would be a mistake to change the SOP of the Gun Control & RKBA group. But if you want to gauge interest in a separate Firearms Enthusiasts Group, you are welcome to do so.

So the Admins are open to adding a new interest group for "gun porn" if there's sufficient interest.

Key words: sufficient interest

How about "Shooting Sports"?

It needs to be a protected group. It'll be a lightning rod for troll paranoids and the political diversity challenged.

As a gun owner with plenty to learn, I've always enjoyed having the ability to private message a firearm owner who's a Dem -- but it's always interesting to read exchanges between the more experienced/knowledgeable folks. I'd be learning a number of new things every day.

That way it can include knives, swords, ancient bows, etc.

Whatever the group is, it does need to be protected.

a separate group.

An area where progressives could discuss firearms (and other interests) with other progressives.

I value the discussion we have in this group and do not want to see it overrun with posts about the technical aspects of guns, or gun prices, or pictures of new guns.

While I may subscribe to a new group with those kinds of posts, this isn't the place for them. (But neither is "Outdoor Life," where they have long been relegated - they really do need their own little corner.)

10. A proposed SOP for the Firearms Enthusiasts (FE) Group

Had posted the below in another thread here in the group but cross posting to keep the discussion in one thread.

"The Firearms Enthusiast group serves as a safe haven to discuss topics related to personal gun use and ownership. Examples would be but not strictly limited to hunting, self-defense, target shooting, firearms technology and gunsmithing, collecting, and firearm safety and education. Discussions about gun control laws, the Second Amendment, and incidents involving the use of firearms for self-defense and to commit crime and violence are forbidden here."

I think this poll here does show there is interest in a new group.
