Sexist gun ads showing blonde, full breasted, mini-skirted woman pointing a pink gun

My lifetime NRA, gun/amo mag subscribing, husband thinks these mags are geared to women!!!!!! What a crock. They are appealing to MALE fantasies. Women with guns look like that and are sexy! I find them very offensive as a feminist, and older woman. See, ladies, if you buy our PINK GUN, this is what you will look like!!!! Didn't look like that at 23, and most certainly will not at 63.

If I ever were to consider buying a gun, it most certainly wouldn't be pink, and definitely not because some sexy "babe" is try to sell me that way.

Male fantasies. They gear these guns and ads all to male fantasies. Actually, I find this whole gun culture, not only dangerous, but extremely insulting as a woman. Yes, being married to a gun supporter. Tell me, about the NRA and their literature. It goes in the garbage if I get the mail first.

BTW, I just joined the Brady Campaign today. Never thought twice about it in the state of NY, but since living in Florida with all their lax gun laws and lives threatened by it, I felt compelled to. Yes, as the wife of an NRA memeber. Bet they would never consider THAT, would the

It makes it ugly. If my husband ever gave me a pink gun, he'd be carrying it and I'd take possession of the Kimber.

7. Florida does not have lax gun laws

at least compared to a couple of very blue states like Vermont. Is your problem that some gun company hired the same ad company as motorcycle companies?

Finally someone actually willing to admit it. Did you read the last BBB report on them? Guessing not. But hey, congratulations on being their first non-millionaire member.
If you hate it here so much, why don't you go back to New York? You know, back to the land of the Sullivan Law. Named after that great progressive and peace activist Tim Sullivan. Oh wait,
Tim Sullivan was a gangster.

9. Male Fantasies?

I could go to the grocery store right now and find at least 5 magazines with blurbs similar to:

-Your Bikini Body in Six Weeks
-Flat Abs, No Sit Ups!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-Get a Sexy Butt in Three Days

and so on...

The ads in those magazines will tell you if you buy this make up, diet drink, shampoo, tampon... you will look like Megan Fox, Drew Barrymore, Taylor Swift, Adriana Lima...

Every one of these magazines will be directly targeted at women.

Car companies do it, beer companies do it, health products, cleaning products... What is special about gun companies?

Not saying I approve or condemn the practice; just sayin'

You might have, don't know the state law then. 21 is a federal law, so really doesn't matter. I do know when my brother joined the police force at 19, he could not buy his service revolver in 1973. My mom had to actually buy it. She had to buy his police ammo for the next two years. Small town PDs are like that.

21. I was 19 in 1967

The NYC store owner said she would buy a gun (yes legal for a business) and leave it in her store, but I declined. I told her leaving her Doberman in the store with me was fine. All the noise from the iron going going through the store glass window woke up her dog in the back. Burglar didn't like that barking, snarling dog coming at him either. Baby was a good boy and knew me well, and would protect me too.

You have said for YEARS, "...where I now am where you can buy whatever you want in your local Walmart, no questions asked."

http://election.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=118&topic_id=331344&mesg_id=331592

Despite you saying, when challenged, that would PROVE your claim was true and report the results, you got awfully testy when asked how your buying went.

How did you recent tour of Florida Walmarts go? Did you ever find one that would sell you a gun, no questions asked?

18. I see a lot of ads with sexy blond women advertising a product ...

For example:

Eating enormous hamburgers on a regular basis can lead to all sorts of health problems.

Perhaps we should ban all advertisements that feature sexy blonds attempting to sell fast cars, fast food or firearms as obviously the ads are designed to cause males to fantasize.

I know a number of women who own firearms and enjoy shooting them. Some even hunt deer or hog. In my experience I found women learn target shooting far faster than men as they listen to what I say rather than assume that after years of watching films and playing first person shooter games they already know how to shoot. Most of the women that I have introduced to shooting have found it "empowering".

The fact the women are becoming interested in owning their own firearms and in shooting as a sport proves that we are making progress in achieving sexual equality in our nation and overcoming gender stereotypes.

A generic symbol for gender equality

Yep, I did go target shooting. Yes, went hunting with him. I just didn't really like it so I decided I wasn't going to do something to please somebody else. I did not like seeing dead animals with all the blood and guts.

So, don't tell me I don't know anything. It can have the exact opposite effect to what some people think.

24. Every individual is different ...

and if have no problems with your decision not to participate in shooting sports. I also agree that you should not be required to do something to please another person.

However, not all women believe as you do and some are interested in shooting and owning their own firearms. That should also be their choice.

I personally have never hunted although I might hunt feral hogs on my property if I move into a more rural area. They are pests and do a lot of damage to the environment but tasty when prepared correctly.

I find target shooting challenging and enjoyable.

Your poutrage is duly noted and might have a little more impact ... if every woman's magazine didn't feature a scantily dressed starlet type on the cover. Or are you suggesting that this was on the cover of American Rifleman?

But Pink, Purple and even Hello Kitty firearms are a choice people get to make and companies get to promote if they choose to.

Be sure to copy us on all the letters you're about to write expressing your outrage at the sexist use of women on magazine covers. Start with Elle, Cosmo and their ilk.

47. My take on the 911 operator to Zimmerman

Given his "history" of constant calling, I would have tried to keep him on the line. I would have told him to phone a buddy to keep him company while he waited for the police. Ask your friend in the community to bring a mug of coffee. Try to diffuse the situation. Trust me you CAN here it in their voices when they are in stress and about to go off. Try to buy time. Time is your friend. Try to get him out of his "vigalante" mindset.

It is far better, and easier, to prevent a situation than to have to diffuse one already in progress. Just what I have learned from years of experience in potential violent situations.

Just about every gun magazine you pick up has hot babes in it. I hate it. It perpetuates the stereotype of men only thinking with their dicks. They also make me uncomfortable reading such magazines in public, as as soon as I turn to that page I'm thinking to myself, "I wonder how many people think I'm just checking out the woman in the picture instead of just reading the damn magazine?"

You continue to stay with him. It beggars belief. Either you must need the meal ticket, or you are afraid he won't be sufficiently miserable without you.
