Clovis man arrested with 500+ guns was on mental health block list

More than 500 firearms were seized from a Clovis home by state agents Wednesday.

59-year-old Albert Sheakalee was arrested. State Attorney General Kamala D. Harris noted in an announcement the owner had the guns illegally and is in the Armed Prohibited Persons System database. The Attorney's office says Sheakalee is on the database due to a prior mental health hold.

California Department of Justice Special Agent Michael Haroldsen says three of Sheakalee mental health holds in the database date back to this June, "You are a danger to the public, or to yourself. That's why these mental health holds are being placed on certain individuals and that is why they are prohibited from possessing firearms."

"He was at one point a federal firearms dealer. He had a license to sell firearms within the State of California and that license was revoked back in 2014, so he was no longer a dealer and that's why he possessed a majority of the firearms. However, he was not able to possess the unregistered assault weapons that we located in his residence even as a dealer."

Screwed up in not verifying the disposition of his inventory when his license was revoked. Seems like we should enforce existing law before we make more new ones.

I know, because you and your fellow travelers keep telling us so.

In this case it looks like the BATFE screwed up not following up on the inventory when his FFL was revoked.
