Mayors to Congress: ‘Get a Backbone’ and Pass Gun Control

The mayors of America’s cities are deeply concerned about rising crime and homicide rates—and deeply frustrated with the Congress’ continued inaction on gun control amid a spate of mass shootings. Stronger gun regulation is needed right now, mayors say, and Congress has hung them out to dry. Senators and representatives “will not be able to escape responsibility for the deaths of innocent Americans,” said Mayor Stephanie Miner of Syracuse, New York.

“Failure to address an issue that amounts to slow-motion mass murder of American citizens, many of whom are black and brown, is political cowardice. Stand up! Do the right thing,” said Mayor Sly James of Kansas City, Missouri.

Chula Vista Mayor Mary Salas said she had a simple message for Congress: “Get a backbone—do your job.”

Those answers were part of an exclusive Politico Magazine survey, which also found that more than 90 percent of mayors say that Congress is doing too little on issues of firearm regulation and gun violence. As Tom Barrett, the mayor of Milwaukee, a city that has seen a surging homicide rate this year, implored: “Stand up against the fear-mongering NRA.” That emotion was seconded by Grand Rapids, Michigan, Mayor George Heartwell, who said, “Buck up and stand up to the NRA. Listen to the voice of the people of America.”

“Stand up against the fear-mongering NRA.”

Listen to our fear mongering instead.

Yeah, mayors like Rahm, who cut the police by over a 1000 officers in the crime ridden districts, tried to bust the teachers union twice so far, just passed a $600 million property tax increase to fund his charter school buddies, really have their finger on the pulse of what the the people want.

And hey, that post is only a few weeks old. You're catching up

I think the Gold Dots are a little too short for the feed ramp. May have to try the Speer Lawman instead.

Oh, and the mayor is anti union and blows.

Thanks for asking.

Scam Alert -- Look Out for Door-to-Door Magazine Scams This Spring

Marlborough, MA - Like seasonal allergies and rainy weather, door-to-door magazine scams are an annual annoyance that return each spring. Be on the lookout for scammers selling fake magazine subscriptions.

How the Scam Works:

You answer your door, and it's someone selling magazine subscriptions. The seller may claim that he/she is raising money for a school or charity. The subscription prices seem steep. In fact, they are typically three times the typical price. However, the money goes to a good cause, so you purchase one anyway. Months pass, and your magazine never arrives. Turns out the magazine fundraiser is totally fake!

I am in favor of UBCs, however, wouldn't that be better done with state laws rather than a law coming out of Washington?
