Shooting at Starbucks

BEVERLY — A Hamilton police sergeant was found dead inside his sport utility vehicle late last night in an apparent suicide, hours after he allegedly shot and seriously wounded a Beverly police officer, officials said.

A late-night police search culminated back at the scene of the first shooting, outside a Starbucks off Route 1A in Beverly, where the body of Sergeant Ken Nagy was discovered in his Saab SUV.

‘‘He has taken his life,’’ said Essex District Attorney Jonathan W. Blodgett. ‘‘It is a tragic day.’’

Police initially responded to the Starbucks at 29 Enon St. at 5:48 p.m., where they found Beverly police Officer Jason Lantych wounded, Blodgett said at a news conference last night.

6. Seeing how it happened OUTSIDE a Starbucks and did NOT involve an open carry

type person (CCW holder), I fail to see the connect between your post and the actual incident.

that the 'guns in starbucks' issue had anything to do with this, since police officers can carry anywhere they damn well please when on duty.

4. ACTUAL headline: Police sergeant found dead in car after allegedly shooting Beverly police officer

The thread headline is seriously misleading. The shooting did NOT occur IN a Starbucks but rather outside. The shooter was one of those police types, you know, the ONLY ones that should be able to "tote" a weapon because they've been thoroughly checked out and stuff. You know, ONLY they can be trusted with guns.

Be that as it may, my sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.

Last week when I stopped in the local Starbuck's I was surprised to see they are now selling (some very expensive) donuts as well as their "scones" and other $3.95 pastry items.

21. This case will not be investigated because the shooter killed himself.

The fellow who was shot in the groin is recovering slowly.

The fellow who was shot in the groin worked with the wife of the guy who killed himself.

This wasn't anything other than a love triangle thing, that ended very badly.

23. Stuff like this...

happens all the time in the LEO community. It's rampant in some departments. It's a wonder we don't have more cop on cop shootings.

Nothing good came from this mess. Maybe some gun prohibitionist can use it to dip their fingers in some blood or something but the reality is it's just a tragic mess.

29. There's more on this story in the news this evening

The declaration that there would be "no investigation" has been walked back by one of the police department public affairs flacks.

I don't know why they changed their mind, but it could be because that the guy who lived (and had his business shot up) was engaged in "conduct unbecoming" by carrying on a workplace romance with a married woman.

That's speculation, but it seems logical.

32. Of course there will be an investigation.

It's what cops do. And they do it to each other with a savage kind of glee that can chill you to the bone if you watch it in action.

It doesn't matter all that much if the details are ever made public. I suspect the wounded victim may be sweating his job right now. And that's probably what the investigation will settle. They also need to look at how both departments handled what was obviously a serious workplace conflict.

33. I don't think the gunshot victim is the only one in jeopardy.

The wife of the guy who killed himself had a pretty good job herself with the wounded guy's department--she did something with regard to domestic violence, either investigating or as a victim advocate.

She was one half of that "conduct unbecoming" scenario.

I went to a Starbucks on the day of the Great Boycott, only to see a table full of old Austin musicians grousing about the good ole days. And folks were right: The coffee did taste a little burned and bitter.

SecMo, nice try. But this is not horse shoes.

Woman Dies, Accidentally Shot Self Near Starbucks

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- A woman accidentally shot herself to death Wednesday afternoon in a parking lot near the intersection of Ramona Avenue and Power Inn Road, according to police at the scene.

The woman was identified by the Sacramento County Coroner's office as Turisha Lashay Huston, 19.

The Sacramento Police Department said Huston was reaching for her gun inside her purse just before it went off.

It happened outside a Starbucks Coffee, in the 3600 block of Power Inn.

27. On a technicality

Aren't the vast majority of all shootings technically outside a Starbucks?

There was a shooting in Philly today. I was in the Starbucks in the I-87 rest stop in NY. I can say for a fact that the shooting in Philly was outside of that Starbucks.

Seems like Open Carry "Inside" a Starbucks is the safest way to go.

But ... watch out for that guy that keeps mumbling "Damn T-baggers" and tries to take pictures of your ass in the chair, while you drink your coffee or tea. He creeps me out.

38. We have a poster here with a regular collection of Starbuck's ass shots.

He seemed very put off when I asked why he had so many pictures of people's asses that showed their holsters and how he could recognize a T-Bagger from just a quick glance at their ass?

So, to be on the safe side, you might not want to go to any Starbuck's in Georgia for a while.
