Rahm moves 150 cops from admin to street to halt gun violence (Mon to Thurs only)

"Nearly 150 cops will move from administrative roles to the street but only on Mondays through Thursdays in August, not on weekends when the most of the shootings have actually been happening."

"While marching with faith leaders in Pilsen Sunday, Mayor Rahm Emanuel said the murder rate in the city is at its lowest level in decades.

The move comes on the heels of a series of violent weekends and two days after Chicago Police Supt. Garry McCarthy told aldermen he had enough manpower in the neighborhoods.

"It's obvious we need more police officers," said Ald. Ricardo Munoz of the 22nd Ward. "On Friday, Superintendent McCarthy was at the City Council saying staffing levels were okay. They're not okay."

The mayor says the additional officers are in addition to the city's so-called "summer surge" of officers announced months ago.

Despite high-profile July shootings, including the death of 11-year-old Shamiya Adams who was killed while at a slumber party, city officials contend the perception of crime doesn't match reality."

So the violent crime spike is almost always from Friday to Sunday. How is taking 150 desk guys to the street, Monday morning to Thursday afternoon, going to stop the violence again?

Why do I think this is just done for the optics of it and to shut up some community leaders that can influence elections?

It's a farce, just making it look like Mayor Rahm is doing something.

Those police officers worked hard to get those desk jobs and be off the street, does anyone think they're going to be happy back on the street or motivated to crack down on crime? I'm inclined to say no.

And in the meantime Mayor Rahm continues to give large checks to the NRA and SAF and their lawyers because he and the city of Chicago keep losing court cases. Thinking that money would be better used elsewhere

in Chicago's peculiar, well-connected and long-lived gang culture, and the police don't want to stick their collective necks out, preferring instead to let the thugs "kill each other."

This is just another "Look what we're doing to curb violence!"...while not actually doing anything meaningful.
