Gun Control & RKBA
Related: About this forumKeeping guns out of the hands of criminals
Those are the people who have given this city a murder rate far higher than that of other big cities, including New York and Los Angeles. The measures Emanuel requests won't incapacitate all or most of them. But they would make a significant difference in how easy it is for criminals to get guns.
Emanuel would prefer to allow no gun shops. After the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Chicago's ban on handgun ownership, the city passed a law outlawing gun stores. But in January that ban also fell, at the hands of a federal judge who ruled that it violated the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms.
He gave Chicago six months to enact a new ordinance allowing gun stores. But he stressed that "nothing in this opinion prevents the city from considering other regulations ... on sales and transfers of firearms to minimize the access of criminals to firearms."

(6,185 posts)...that finds it strange that the host of the Gun Control Activism Forum is here posting stories about Chicago adding its first gun stores in over 40 years?
Who would have thought that Gun Control Activism included sharing the good news of more gun stores and shooting ranges for Chicago residents?

(676 posts)And at least Emmanueal is trying to do something about it. The same can't be said about the NRA.
And what's the writer trying to say when he talks about the violent "thugs"?

(17,502 posts)Does anyone seriously think a gang banger or drug dealer is going to get a FOID card (Illinois has a owner licensing system, and has for decades) go to a gun store and fill out the forms and background check required under the Gun Control Act and Brady law? I can't picture anyone being that naive. There hasn't been a gun store or gun range in Chicago in about 30 years. The whole point of this is to use zoning ordnances and pointless laws to keep from having to obey the SCOTUS.
He isn't doing anything about the real problem, the gangs and their guns. He can't go after the gangs because Chicago is Tammany Hall on Steroids. Anytime the people demand something be done, the mayor and alderman have town meetings saying "we can't do anything because those hillbillies are bringing guns into our neighborhoods."
