Silencers are so popular that there's a nine-month wait to have a registration approved by the ATF, according to Ben Shim, a certified firearms instructor and gun industry analyst with CRT Capital Group in Stamford, Conn.

(35,293 posts)now we have a lobbying group for silencers. This country has literally gone insane.

(40 posts)Increased suppressor ownership and use would be very beneficial to a large number of people, and thats not just firearm enthusiasts.

(17,502 posts)France, New Zealand, UK, Norway, Finland (just to name a few) are insane? They are required in some public ranges in France. Some hunting areas in Norway and Finland also require them.

(35,293 posts)mind everyone needs a silencer. I hunted and shot guns for decades never had a use for one. You would defend private
ownership of nukes if the NRA told you to.

(40 posts)What does the NRA have to do with anything? Why are you against the use of a device that decreases the risk of permanent hearing damage?

(17,502 posts)I never said anyone needs anything. I oppose the "everybody needs" as much as I oppose the "nobody has a legitimate reason" mentality. If it is practical for their use and they have the money to piss away, more power to them. Their reason for being under NFA had to do with anti poaching (which is why many game departments banned them in the field) than crimes against humans, since that is rare to nonexistent (even so, duct tape and a 2 liter soda bottle is a lot simpler and cheaper.)
There are not privately owned nukes only because they are really fucking expensive and what the hell would you do with it other than hire people to go in the silo and make sure it still works?
I never owned one either, and really don't plan on getting one either. Actually, I am more than capable of thinking for myself. I do that quite well, so I don't need the NRA, MDA, GOA, VPC, EIB, or any other alphabet soup who hired a marketing guru to shape the minds of those who can't.
I did ask a legitimate and reasonable question which you failed to comprehend, or choose not to.
Must add: that is the cutest simile I have read in ages.

(18,318 posts)Getting past Hollywood and its fanciful images, they are of great assistance to ones hearing, and the hearing if others in the vicinity. My ears wouldn't have a 24-7 ring (as they do now) if they were available years ago. Other than at the range, ear protection is a handicap -- even a danger -- while hunting. BTW, silencers don't silence, they reduce noise levels somewhat.

(40 posts)Wouldnt require a nine + month long wait and be subject to NFA regulations. It would be nice to just be able to pick one up at your LGS with no more hassle than purching any other firearm.
