Dozens of Gun Manufacturers Refusing to Sell to Some State/Local Governments

http://www.catholic.org/business/story.php?id=49870

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - The grassroots movement is a backlash against increasingly restrictive firearm laws across the nation. Several private arms manufacturers have now publicly stated that they will no longer sell weapons and ammunition to law enforcement and other government agencies.

Some agencies have cancelled contracts altogether while others have said they will not sell anything that is illegal for citizens in a given state to posses. For example, if a particular firearm is illegal to posses in one state, then the weapons will not be sold to law enforcement either.

SNIP

List follows:

Olympic Arms, Inc
La Rue Tactical
EFI, LLC - Extreme Firepower
York Arms
Templar Custom
Cheaper Than Dirt
Barrett Firearms
Exile Machine
Tier One Arms
Bravo Company USA
Primary Weapons Systems
Crusader Weaponry
Top Gun Supply
Kiss Tactical
Clark Fork Tactical
OFA Tactical
One Source Tactical
Templar Tactical Arms
NEMO Arms
Old Grouch's Military Surplus
Big Horn Armory
Midway USA
CMMG Inc
Rocky Top Tactical
Badger Peak
Controlled Chaos Arms
SRT Arms
Norton Firearms
Citizen Arms
Evolution Weaponry
Doublestar Corp
JCW Industries
Huntertown Arms
Bullwater Enterprises
Westfork Armory
Smith Enterprise
Alex Arms
Spike's Tactical
Quality Arms
Liberty Suppressors
Doublestar Corp
American Spirit Arms
Trident Armory
Head Down Products
J&G Sales

This list continues to grow daily.

With the exception of Cheaper Than Dirt and Barrett, I don't see any major companies on the list. I suspect that most of them don't have any government contracts and are not sacrificing any business. Most are likely on there as a publicity stunt. Still it is an interesting development.

1. "I don't see any major companies"

I don't either! And Cheaper than Dirt and Barrett aren't big Law Enforcement suppliers either!

It's just little "bubba suppliers" throwing temper tantrums.

4. There are other sites that are carrying the news story.

It IS a news story, even though it is a minor story. Catholic Online was just the first one that popped up when I googled for the story. I try to avoid linking to FOX when I can.

I can see why they would be so concerned with guns...

I only looked at the one story. It was at the top of the google page.

9. I'm claiming the source is a right wing website

And the question is not whether the story is true or false. The question is whether a number of minor gun manufacturers raising a fuss over gun laws deserves any attention.

12. Rather than play the victim

why don't show us why this story deserves our attention?

Have any of the listed companies ever had a contract to supply a state or local government with guns?

If so, if they were refuse to sell guns to any state or local government, would it have any effect on that government's function?

I suspect the answer to both questions is no and that the linked article is just blowing smoke.

13. I don't have to meet any of your tests.

If you don't like the thread, appeal to the host for it to be locked.

It meets the purpose of the group: Discuss gun politics, gun control laws, the Second Amendment, the use of firearms for self-defense, and the use of firearms to commit crime and violence.

It is about gun politics.

15. So you're the zampolit of ideological purity?

I heard about it in an email from my cousin, found it interesting, googled to find a story, and posted the first google link. Obviously you don't like Catholic Online, but until today I never heard of them. The second google link was to the same story in FOX and I didn't want to use them.

Settle down, you're getting your blood pressure too high.

And you still haven't told us why a statement by a group of small-time gun assembler/manufacturers with zero influence deserves attention?

state and local LEO's when it's the "guns kill people" folks who don't know their ass from a hole in the ground that are proposing the latest round of pistol grips scare me laws.

They need to work within their respective states to gather opposition to more assaults on liberty.

17. Midway is bigger than than you are giving them credit for, Barrett has some military contracts

Their line is more than most cop shops need, but most SWAT units have a Barret around "just in case".

I thought Magpul joined in. They do make the best AR mags out there. Vastly superior to most

Or PSA I'm not sure, both were back to back in DEC.

Midway is a top notch company to deal with IMHO, I've had nothing but great luck dealing with them. PSA, well their shipping leaves something to be desired.

26. Indeed they do...

Generally on the command vehicle or truck. Its special equipment, they don't use it every time. Normally the sniper deploys with a 308 but more than a few departments have a Barret, mostly for stopping vehicles in extreme circumstances.

28. Ones in my area include

LAPD
LACSD
SBCSD
SDPD
SDCSD
That leaves out Federal and State agencies not to mention the military. Other smaller departments have them too. They are fairly common. Like other heavy hardware, they are quite popular with PDs as they militarize.

41. Yup, Ronnie Barrett refused to sell or repair for any Cali agency

I had his letter somewhere for a year or two and can't find it now. But he did indeed cut off all agencies in the state from sales and service from his company, including parts. As far as I know his one-company boycott still stands.

Several of those "small companies" like Midway aren't so small and do a significant amount of government business with the Feds. A few years back when the Marine Recon units switched back to the 1911, the armorers bought all their parts for the rebuilds, barrels, bushings, new triggers, night sights etc. through one of these specialty companies in Alabama and had them shipped to Iraq and Afghanistan.

It stuck in my mind because the company's owner wrote a nice little article about getting an purchase order in the mail from the US Marine's armorers requesting specific components.

30. I support this

If the politicians think that those weapons are dangerous, then the manufactures are agreeing to obey the law, and not sell to the state, even if the law allows sales to Law enforcement.

I think all gun laws should apply equally to Law enforcement as it does to law abiding civilians.
