Author of "American Sniper" Chris Kyle shot to death

"Chris Kyle, the former U.S. Navy SEAL sniper who was responsible for 160 kills during his career as U.S. Navy SEAL sniper, was shot and killed with another man at a gun range on Saturday"

If only they had guns at the gun range to defend themselves this would have never happened...wait....what?

2. When enough good, innocent people have been killed, a majority of Americans will either get

rid of their guns in disgust or, will amend the Second Amendment to limit the keeping and bearing of arms to very, very few people.

All the rhetoric and argument against guns would end in a minute if the random and often accidental killings stopped. And all the support for guns could end quite abruptly if the killings continue.

It's up to people who keep and bear arms to use their weapons very safely and to keep weapons out of the hands of others whom they know to be capable of killing. The numbers of deaths are unacceptable, and that fact is becoming increasingly apparent.

We need to use our rights responsibly. Clearly quite a few gun owners don't do that -- which legitimizes the anti-gun movement. The only people who can protect the right to keep and bear arms are those who own guns. That group of people needs to control themselves far better than they have been.

Updated today at 1:34 AM

GLEN ROSE, Texas (AP) Former Navy SEAL and "American Sniper" author Chris Kyle was fatally shot along with another man Saturday on a Texas gun range, a sheriff told local newspapers.

Erath County Sheriff Tommy Bryant said Kyle, 38, and a second man were found dead at Rough Creek Lodge's shooting range west of Glen Rose, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram and Stephenville Empire-Tribune. Glen Rose is about 50 miles southwest of Fort Worth ...

Investigators did not immediately release the name of the second victim.

Witnesses told sheriff's investigators that a gunman opened fire on the men around 3:30 p.m. Saturday, then fled in a pickup truck belonging to one of the victims, according to the Star-Telegram. The newspapers said a 25-year-old man was later taken into custody in Lancaster, southeast of Dallas, and that charges were expected ...

"If only they had guns ... to defend themselves this would have never happened...wait....what?"

Oh geeze, you crack me up, you really do! I've heard that one 1,378,921 times and it never fails to get a laugh. Especially right after someone dies. You grab nuts. Such wags, I tell ya!

But we're obviously witnessing the death of original thought.

16. Maybe not a whole lot

but enough that I don't have to post the same lameass line of sarcastic strawman shit every time someone dies through the use of a firearm.

17. I'll give you that. Certainly I am not that original either.

And I acknowledge your point as well. But to criticise on the basis of repetitiveness would be more appropriate.

We are on opposite sides of this. My problem is that "every time someone dies through the use of a firearm" is itself repetitive and maddening.

6. Isn't it somewhat hypocritical

to call one person's death by violence using a gun a tragedy, yet a different person's death by the same means is cause for celebration, revelry and humor

15. I do not

though it does not really apply in this situation.

Tone is hard to tell on the internet- you may have been intending irony, if so I retract any accusation towards you. Irony is quite applicable to this incident.

There are others however...
