NYPD Offering $200 for Guns in Buyback Program
http://fortgreene.patch.com/articles/nypd-offering-200-for-guns-in-buyback-program-549d59cd
The NYPD and District Attorney’s office will hold a gun buyback program on January 28, at Bedford Central Presbyterian Church (1200 Dean Street at the corner of Nostrand Ave.), from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Participants will receive a $200 bank card for operable handguns, and a $20 bank card for operable rifles and shotguns. Current or retired law enforcement guns will not be accepted. (more at link) I just want to know why this sort of thing isn't being done in my neck of the woods. Sell them a few $40 Raven .25s at $200 each, and my next suppressor is paid for!

1. Holy crap!
|
I've been looking to offload my wife's LCR. This is more than I would get in trade from the gun shop.

7. For that price, I'd bring in a bunch of old Iver Johnson revolvers.
|
Or those $80 .45 derringers you see online.

12. Hate it.
|
Too small. Recoil is terrible and it is difficult to aim accurately.

2. Crminals, here's your chance to dump your crime guns!
|
These are always no questions asked.
Get that gun you shot that clerk or rival drug dealer with and turn it in for a $200 gift card from Bloomie with no chance of it ever being traced back to you and uses in court to convict you! Better yet, turn in all those cheap beat to shit revolvers and you'll have enough gift cards to get a nice new 9mm Beretta with a 20 round magazine for your next gig. Smart work Bloomie. |

3. I went to a gun buy-back a few years ago.
|
I sometimes do some free-lance reporting for a small town newspaper. Once one of my pictures was picked up nationally and was even on CNN. I got some nice $$ for that one. So I used my Press card to stand around and watch what was turned in. About 200 guns were turned in, and only a handful were quality guns. Most were pieces of junk.

4. Has anyone ever done research
|
to see if there is a spike in gun thefts when one of these buyback things is announced?

5. Given how much Bloomberg hates guns
|
you'd think he pony up some of his own money for the buyback and up the amount paid for the gun.

8. If you don't pay market value, only two kinds of people will respond to these programs:
|
Idiots and people selling junk.
