1. UGGG! Will this ever end?

Right when I think we are giving GOOD food there is a recall!

Why is this? Why are these manufacturers allowed to do this????

2. Good lord! These are brands that we are told are better for our pets!

It is time to raise a ruckus about this....they will not take this bullshit seriously unless they get "the squeaky wheel" treatment.

Does anyone know what agency of the government would be responsible for pet food quality?

4. FDA I think

I think it has a lot to do with the huge companies that make many many different dog foods all in the same plant and the plants are enormous. Salmonella problems in dog food always seem to be the ones that huge companies make. I guess it's a lot harder to maintain cleanliness in such huge plants.

I decided I'm going back to Blue Buffalo and just hope they have one that doesn't have the loose dried cranberries and and blueberries in it because Yoshi doesn't like them and spits them out on the floor... and they make up about a quarter or third of what's in the bad. They have a lot of different kinds though, so I just hope they have one without the loose dried fruits he spits out. Blue Buffalo is a small family owned company out of Connecticut and they never seem to have any of these recall problems. Neither does Newman's Own probably for the same reason and that it's all organic. But Newman's Own though both the last dog and this one really loved it has both wheat and soy in it, which I don't want him eating since they're both prime allergens for dogs.

3. DAMMIT! I just switched Yoshi over to Taste of the Wild!

And he really likes it! He's not had any problems with it either, so this bag must be ok, but there's not much left. I meant to buy more on Thursday when I went shopping but forgot about it. Now I'm glad I forgot!

That's it. I'm going back to Blue Buffalo whether he likes it or not. I just can't trust the big companies that make dog foods since they always seem to be the ones to get salmonella problems. Blue Buffalo is a relatively small family owned company in Connecticut, and I trust them a lot more. They also never seem to be part of recalls especially with contaminants or bacterias. I think a lot of these constant salmonella problems have to do with huge companies with huge plants making all kinds of different dog foods where it's harder to keep track of cleanliness.

No more huge dog food manufacturers for my fuzzy baby!

5. We're doing a mixed feeding plan

Feeding 3/4 cup of Nature’s Variety Instinct Chicken Meal Formula + 1/2 cup of home-cooked brown rice -twice a day.

This was the highest protein dry kibble we could find. 2 cups of dry brown rice cooks up to enough food to feed Ellie for a week.
Ellie's a 42 lb greyhound mix.

So far so good, but I'm watching the recalls very closely. I facebook-liked truthaboutpetfood.com. She keeps us up-to-date and is faster than the FDA site.

6. Natural Balance is voluntary

Natural balance states on their site that they are voluntarily recalling food. Salmonella has not been found in their food. You can go to the website and actually check the lab results on your bag of food. http://bwc.naturalbalanceinc.com/

More info on recall here http://www.naturalbalanceinc.com/home/NB_recall.html

7. We've Premium Edge and Taste of the Wild in our house, but aren't in the states listed for recall.

We got started on them (and Natural Balance without rice) with a dog who had big allergy issues, and then with a cat in similar straits. They all have done well on them. It is too bad

8. What states recalled Taste of the Wild?

I thought the recall was nationwide.
