What do you use for a laxative for your cat(s)?

My cat didn't care for the commercial brands, so I dose her with vaseline
maybe twice a week. I have to either rub it inside her mouth or rub it on her paws so she'll lick it off. (She used to lick it off my fingers but won't any more.)

I've heard canned pumpkin but haven't tried it.

She's an elderly cat, and I guess she gets dehydrated. Some of you might think I should change her diet. But I have to practically beg her to eat anything. Except canned salmon, which I give her occasionally.

Every two days, I mix 1/4 tsp Miralax into her wet food. The product is tasteless so she will eat as usual. I found this did the job. At first, the Vet said daily but currently this once every 2 days works. I also add--on a daily basis, about 2 teaspoons water to her wet food, both morning and night. She free feeds and I leave some dry food in a dish for her to snack on.

My kitty is also a fussy eater, will eat only Fancy Feast Shredded Chicken Fare w/garden greens. Expensive stuff. Those bitty cans are too pricey. I can't understand why this product is not sold in the regular cat food size cans. Oh wait, yes I can. Makes more money for Purina.

I also tried Vaseline and then a product called Petromalt. The poor cat does not like anything she is forced to swallow.

Canned 100% pumpkin; not pumpkin pie filling.

Most of my rescue's cats will eat it without any prompting. It's simply a very good source of fiber. If she won't eat it on her own, try a tiny bit mixed with her food.

Good luck!

didn't know that he was chronically constipated at the time I adopted him. Eventually he became obstipated which is completely blocked up. +$700 dollars vet bill later - he came home with the instruction that I put Miralax in his food every day. I was given a range of amounts to try - 1/4 teaspoon did the job for him. You can also use the store brand of Miralax which main ingredient is Polyethelene Glycol. Same stuff.
