Related: About this forumMy poor Quincy has
a raging bacterial skin infection. We went to the vet today got a steroid shot some oral antibiotics and some medicated shampoo.
Here's the problem, I went to bathe him when we got home from the vet and after I washed him he started drooling. Not just regular drooling... seriously drooling. I put him back in the shower and rinsed him down again and although the drooling has slowed down he is still doing it.
I called the vet and she has left for the day, they will contact her to give me a call back. In the mean time I thought I'd give a shout out here on DU. Does anyone know what could be happening? Is he reacting over the shampoo? Or is it the shot?
On Edit: Quincy is my sweet twelve year old Boston Terrier.

(17,045 posts)He's been licking and scratching and been generally miserable for several days now.
I feel so bad, I thought he was just suffering from pollen, I've been giving him benadryl for the last several days until I realized that wasn't helping.
Thanks for your kindness, he should be better soon I hope!

(6,011 posts)I thought perhaps he got a bit of shampoo in his mouth? I've swallowed a tiny bit of diluted dish detergent and it made my mouth and throat sting.

(17,045 posts)Thank you for all that replied.
The vet called late last night, by then his drooling had subsided somewhat. The Vet seemed almost certain that the shampoo was the culprit. He's had steroids before and never reacted this way.
I put in BACK in the bath and soaked him and rinsed him for almost thirty minutes. I towel dried him pretty thoroughly.
He's better today, my poor little guy....slept like a baby last night.
Thanks fellow Pet folk!

(11,573 posts)Ask your vet about topical gentocin spray. It does wonders, and you can control where it goes.
