Related: About this forumWe said goodbye to our beloved boy this morning.
Sam, our Welsh Terrier, has gone over the Rainbow Bridge. We were blessed to have this wonderful dog with us for nearly 16 years. So very hard, but we did all we could for him, and then did the greatest kindness for him this morning. It was his time.
I know all of you understand, and will send healing thoughts to Grandpa B and me as we grieve our loss.
So glad to be part of this group.

(9,494 posts)All I can offer is my condolences and encourage you to take out his old photos and remember what a great life he had. Remember how much joy you brought to each other and how special Sam will always be to you.

(67,776 posts)The unconditional love that was so obviously a two way sharing. He'll now be waiting for you there in the meadow on the other side The Bridge, as happy as you've ever known him.

(17,528 posts)Losing one's fur baby can actually be almost as hard as losing a family member.
I too had my precious JR furry angel (who didn't have a single fault) for almost 17 years.
It's soooo hard to know when it's time and soooo hard to make that final decision.
I'm glad you were able to do it. I'm sure he's thanking you at this moment. Bless both of you!

that final act of kindness is so hard, but it truly is our final act of love for them.

(1,395 posts)I appreciate all the kind words from those who I know understand so well. We are doing ok, relieved to know Sam is free of suffering.
He was a real character. Will get a pic or two up when I can.
Thanks again.

RIP, Sam. You were loved, and still are.

(11,065 posts)As my brother once said to me, what you did for your poor old doggie was the last and most profound act of love for him. I'm sure we all empathize with how you feel especially since most if not all of us have been in this same ghastly position before and likely will again. Been through it twice myself and it sure doesn't get any easier, but I suppose I would never want it to be easier anyway. One day I'll have to do it again, and I just hope that that day is many many years from now.
I'm so sorry for your loss. Know that your beloved Sam waits for you in a much better place, and one day you'll be together again.

(2,791 posts)Much love and peace to you and Grandpa B. I like to believe that all my babies watch over me and my girls, and they're in my heart for as long as it beats. Sam will be with you in your heart always.

And...I always say this even though it's certainly a difficult thing to even think of at a time like this. But when you are ready - and only YOU know when that time would be - please consider adopting another pet. I am in rescue, and great homes like yours are few and far between. There are many companion animals who need homes. When we send one of ours to a home where we know that a former pet has received love, good vet care, attention and caring - we are elated with the outcome.
Again - I am not trying to lessen the grieving that you need to do for your Sam. I hope you find comfort and peace.

(1,395 posts)When we lost our Guinness kitty, it was about a year. And then we adopted Belle. So glad she is with us now - doing an excellent job of taking care of us during this hard time.
There is a specific Terrier Rescue operation in the UK. Although our local shelters take in Terriers all the time. When the time is right, we will make a home for a dog who needs us.
