Today I met an angel in training.

I was at the dentist this morning. While there, there was a buzz from out in the reception that I could hear. It seems one of their patients came in to show off her new charge.

It was a black Lab puppy, complete with puppy breath and sharp little puppy teeth. He was wearing a harness. On the harness was a badge. It noted that he was a Wounded Warrior Service Dog in training. 12 weeks old. The woman who had him was a volunteer. She would raise him for two years, taking him to specialized training while being responsible for his socialization. Today's outing was part of that regimen. After two years (two YEARS!!) she would give him up, at which point he will be a PTSD companion dog to a vet.

He is named for a fallen soldier.

A dog in service for the betterment of people.

A volunteer who is doing something i could *never* do . . . . raising and loving a dog only to give it away.

I admire her.

Try to take a dog out of my hands and I'll bite! Forget 'giving' it away. Not in me.

Like you, I can't imagine giving up a beloved friend after two years. Thank goodness for the volunteer who I think is a true angel.

His harness looked a lot like these, but in red.
