Any other Salvia fans?
I have loads of Salvias, and they are my favorites.
I have: S. arizonica S. azurea S. chamaedryoides S. clevelandii "Pozo Blue" S. elegans S. glechomifolia S. greggii "Alba" S. greggii "Caviar" S. greggii "Hot Lips" S. greggii "Maraschino Cherry" S. greggii "Mesa Azure" S. greggii "Purple Pastel" S. greggii "Tangerine" S. guaranitica "Black and Blue" S. guaranitica "Purple Majesty" S. "Indigo Spires" S. nemerosa "Blue Hill" S. nemerosa "Caradonna" S. nemerosa "May Night" S. nemerosa "Snow Hill" S. "Nuevo Leon" S. patens S. regla S. reptens "West Texas" S. transylvanica S. uliginosa Plus two other dark purple, a pale pink, and a hot pink greggii-type that I forgot the names of. I've also tried chiapensis and confertiflora but they didn't come back in the spring, and leucantha rotted out. Anyway, I need more and I was wondering what you-all had tried.

1. I wish more of them were perennial here.

Last edited Wed Jun 27, 2012, 06:07 AM USA/ET - Edit history (1) I've got Hot Lips, Black and Blue, and a whole bunch of Lady in Red plus its white and pink versions. And of course the regular blue salvia, the white blue salvia, and regular red and pastel annual salvias.
I tried growing chia here last year. It never quite made it to bloom, budded up when the frost took it, but the foliage was nice all summer and it had a wonderful fragrance. It is good foliage filler in combo pots as long as not overwatered. Climates with a longer fall before frost would see the blooms. |

2. I have two May Nights in pots (one the original plant, 4years old, and

the other I grew from a rooted cutting from the old one, two years old.)
I have another perennial that's more of a magenta-y purple, also going on it's fourth year, but I cannot remember the name. I also have a couple of annuals: a red one (don't recall that name either) "Vista Purple"- a black'ish purple Salvias are so satisfying b/c they bloom for such a long time. Never knew there were so many varieties. I'd love to see some pictures of your garden. |

I have a big, old plant in front of the house. I need to propogate a few more before it dies out.
There are assorted S. greggii in the flower beds in back of the house. |
