i'm hoping to not spend an exorbitant amount of money on food at the festival tonight. we'll eat before we head in and have food waiting for us at the hotel when we get back, but i know we'll get hungry while we're there.
happy friday, all!

(35,616 posts)Meatloaf that the RG made for me, onion rings that I picked up at the store on the way home from school, and salad--as of yet, unenvisioned. But definitely something interesting!
Go comfort food: It's the end of the week!

And beer.

(14,733 posts)(which I didn't even know the housemate had bought) to make 'chicken alfredo'. Kinda bland, but edible. Quite filling for only two people as well. I think it would have worked for 4 if we'd had a couple of sides.
Non-dinner related, went with Mom today to a giant book sale at a semi-local convention center. Apparently the chain (I can't recall now if it's 'Books a Million' or 'Half Price books') dumps everything that isn't selling at individual stores into a central warehouse, then once a year holds these events to blow everything out at 1 to 2 bucks a book. I picked up probably somewhere around 800 to 1000 dollars worth of nursing and related medical texts for 33 bucks, so I've got a lot of reading to do now.

(14,733 posts)Bought all I could carry today.
And I did look over a few cookbooks, but so many recipes are online these days that it seems a waste unless I find something truly unusual.
While she's cruising the history tables, I'll wander around the areas I didn't hit this time. Always looking for more books on seed saving or canning and preservation. Reminds me that it's getting closer to time to break out the food mill and try my hand at black raspberry gels. Be a blast to finally have the raspberries processed sans seeds. The jam is good, but I do get tired of the seeds.

(2,016 posts)I finally found a sausage I like, here in the high desert. I found it at a Winco, and it's "NY Sausage Company". They claim it is "New York style", but it has the spices which I grew up on in Rhody.
I guess what they mean by "NY style" means it actually has flavor, and they aren't shy about the spices.

(106,886 posts)a sausage sandwich and a slice of pizza. At the beach, pizza was made Sicilian style, very thin and spiced with garlic and herbs.
Baked / roasted in a square pan so you got a square of pizza as a slice. The usual request - give me an outside piece (more crusty) or give me an inside piece (more saucy).
