(28,791 posts)came out perfectly rare in the center, yumm.
I could make stroganof or something, but I'd rather use that time to make apple pie
cbayer
(146,218 posts)to overcook it.
I recently did some and used leftovers for sandwiches, which was ok, but I still had too much. Stroganoff sounds good, but the meat turns tough when I do that.
If I were you, I would go for the apple pie!!!
Viva_La_Revolution
(28,791 posts)one slice at a time, and eat it right away. doesn't give it time to cook any more

(22,058 posts)We survived the storm, no downed trees, no power failure. It's raining and cold, good day for soup .

(146,218 posts)one was a soup and the other a raw slaw.
They were both good, but to be quite honest, that raw kale doesn't digest all that well and we had some plumbing problems as a consequence. Probably too much information, I know, but I had only seen it as a decorative green, not food.
Glad you made it through the storm ok!

(22,058 posts)He lost his appendix several years ago and now things are worse for him . Not sure if that is related to the ruptured appendix or not .
Yeah, the huge storm thankfully for us wasn't so bad here. Most of the leaves are off the trees anyway and I think that saved us from having trees go down on top of power lines. Did not have one blip of loss of power .

(146,218 posts)I served him the last of the cauliflower soup with canned peas last night. I ate macaroni and cheese.
He's on his own until we get this sorted out at this point. It's the only way to light a fire under his behind.
FWIW, we do have a tentative plan to sail to the small town tomorrow.... so help may be on the way.

(175,652 posts)The less food you have, the less he eats.

(146,218 posts)He's going to have a hard time finding something worth eating tonight.
Can of pickled beets, anyone?

(175,652 posts)reservations?
cbayer
(146,218 posts)It's way too expensive, so it was a real treat.
He's going in to the little store now and I told him to get something frozen.

(21,023 posts)Layered and baked in a sort of shepherd's pie. The kale gets par-boiled, chopped and sauteed with bacon and onion. Cold weather fare. It's 50 degrees and raining. No wind at all.

(146,218 posts)Sounds great and ingredients went on my shopping list.
Enjoy!

(10,291 posts)until the last minute...so sprout-less pad thai.
It could have been better, but it was still really good
cbayer
(146,218 posts)Not bad at all and you can add what you want.
Too bad about your sprouts.

(44 posts)Wish we had a real oven. There should be a support group for those of us without!
cbayer
(146,218 posts)We do have a frugal and energy efficient group, but no "no stove" group.
FWIW, I have a very tiny stove with no thermostat that only works intermittently, lol.

(44 posts)My set up is a toaster oven and two burners. I admit limits my cooking, but I would go nuts if the oven temps weren't consistent!

(12,249 posts)with caramelized onion and mushroom gravy, mashed potatoes, stewed carrots, romaine salad with yellow heirloom tomato and avocado. Very 'safe after the storm' kind of comfort food.
