Just did corn on the cob in the microwave...

the method described in this thread. http://www.democraticunderground.com/11578986

I wet the husks like someone else had mentioned and put the cobs on a paper towel. Worked perfectly! I just have to remember to buy smaller husks since I replaced my microwave with a smaller version than my last one.

I'm gonna' try it. For people who don't want to watch the video, in addition to what Phentex wrote, it's 8 minutes in the micro.

When done, cut the end off the bottom and, wearing gloves, shake from the top of the ear. The corn on the cob will fall right out.

But watch the video anyway, the guy doing the technique is a sweetheart.

He even brings a couple of ears to work so at lunch he can "wow" his co-workers. Lol.

Mmmm yummy corn!

wetting the husks and the paper towel. The corn felt a smidge over-cooked, but maybe it was the quality of the corn. It's not quite the season for truly great corn yet.

I do love the fast and easy technique and will definitely be trying it again.

last season, and yes indeed it worlds great.

A little too early for fresh corn-on-the cob, but I will patiently wait!

But when I'm not suing that method, the microwave-in-the-husk method is very convenient.

Most sweet corn begins to convert sugar to starch as soon as it is picked. I just boil it all as soon as I get it and then put it in the fridge in a gallon zip lock (well, what we don't snarf down immediately). I usually break the ears in half to both make cooking easier and allow a quick "grab and go" snack. The nuke box is perfect for reheating it, but overdoing it will make it rubbery.

On Edit:
About 40 years ago, one of my uncles was a certified hippie. He took us camping and used the soaking in husks method to cook corn in the coals. My memory of it is that the corn was a bit burned and undercooked at the same time.

but you should not use microwaves. First of all, it heats food to 2000 degrees. How long does it take to boil some water and cook corn for a few minutes?

I hate removing that and this method takes care of that problem. Plus, it tasted great. It's hot as hell outside so I will use the microwave as much as I can this summer.
