Question about sleep patterns :

I'm coming out of a severe flare of Sjogren's (think Lupus lite). The medication I'm on has resolved the fatigue and breathlessness. In general, I'm out of condition but am working on regaining my strength. Here's the question: I'm sleeping well, but I'm sleeping 11-12 hours a night. Is this my body healing itself after the flare?

1. Pretty much. I've been averaging 10 hours on the nights I can sleep

which is most of them now that I've given up trying to be normal. When I'm in a serious flare, I go anywhere from 12 to 20 at a crack.

Dealing with this means dealing with a lot of stuff healthy people don't have to worry about, like having fewer waking hours in the day.

You sleep as much as you need to.

2. i sleep those kinds of hours pretty regularly.

it sucks. it does tend to go along with other symptoms, like pain. even pain from an injury will put me away.

3. i've been having similar problems

with sleep. Not just dealing with Lupus and Sjogrens, but also sleep apnea. Sometimes, i'm amazed i function at all and feel mad at myself for sleeping so much (even tho' the quality is awful). It's comforting to know i'm not alone in needing more sleep.

4. Lucky. I keep waking after 4 hours

and struggle to get back to sleep. I dont know if its the plaquenil or the prednisone, but it's getting old. I finally slept all night Monday, then I caught a cold that has me coughing and waking up. I just buried my head in the pillow and walked to the guest room where my coughing wouldnt disturb anyone else.

5. That is what it sounds like to me.

I sleep those types of hours when I am healing. Having a weak heart makes it easy to sleep any where and any time... I just don't feel myself without at least a12 hour night's sleep.
