What are you watching on Netflix?
I'm watching Archer. It's like Get Smart meets The Office. Funny stuff, although a little on the raunchy side.
A two season show set in Philly, 2003 and 2004.
A crooked cop turned cab driver runs around helping people and solving crimes with his former partner. Mostly your average cop show, but there have been a few extraordinarily good stories. The holiday show (Thanksgiving) in the first season is one of the best holiday shows I've seen. Some nice cast changes for the second season.

I just did a search. It's there. It's Hack, not Hack!

This may be the best series ever produced in the U.S.

(18,161 posts)1) A British police inspector tries to retire to open a restaurant but keeps getting called back on cases.
Richard Griffiths, who played Harry Potter's uncle, is the main character. Like many British shows, it's a comedy/drama. Nothing too deep though.
2) The Ambassador stars Pauline Collins as the British Ambassador to Ireland. Not bad.

(146,218 posts)I filter by rating and by RT recommendation. It has led me to some amazing Indy films, documentaries, episodes of Frontline and American Experience that I missed and great classic movies.
I don't find Netflix recommendations of much use at all, but this system is just right.

out on dvd, Seasons 1 and 2.
"This cop drama centers on Raylan Givens (Timothy Olyphant), a rookie U.S. Marshal whose penchant for taking the law into his own hands, frontier-style, gets him relegated to a real backwater post -- the Appalachian town where he grew up. As Givens squares off against escaped convicts, drug dealers, white supremacists and other hardened crooks, he also works to come to terms with his troubled father, Arlo (Raymond J. Barry)."

Pluses:
Written by Elmore Leonard ( Fargo, Get Shorty, Jackie Brown)
so has lots of droll humor.
Has Walton Goggins, Alabama actor, in it, who is so mesmerizing they re-wrote the show to keep him as a recurring character.
You will recognize him when you see him.
Has a lot of unknown actors/actresses who are very very good.
And lead character is is kind of yummy.
Interesting music.
It can be addictive, perfect escapist series to watch in this cold, damp, depressing weather.
Minuses:
Supposed to take place in Kentucky, yet filmed in Pa. and of course Cal.
It is a mite distracting to see Ca. hills in the background.
But, for those who do not pay attention to details like that, no biggee, I guess.

(1,999 posts)I'm just beginning the 2nd season and liking it a lot, although I'm not at all sure I'll get through the entire series. I'm going to probably alternate this with Murder in Suburbia.

(47,399 posts)Someone here recommended it a while back and it will help me with Downton Abbey withdrawal. It takes place in a 1920s upscale British hotel and like "Upstairs Downstairs", it tells the stories of both the privileged and the servants.

Also, I watched Archer a few months ago...good stuff

YankeyMCC
(8,401 posts)seems like the characters are always just on the point of, I guess 'filling out' is the best way I can phrase it. It keeps you expecting things to really gel but then you finish the episode and feel like you just walked away from the table without finishing a good meal.
shcrane71
(1,721 posts)doesn't evolve to a more 3-demensional person. It's rather a let down. Good premise for a series, but I think I'll skip watching the rest.

and

watch the second one first... it's definitely a continuing story line of skating in the eighties (in California) and early nineties. The first fills in the holes of the second while being completely original.

(1,532 posts)Wow--interesting show. What a great example of character motivation and conflict. It's hard to believe the main character is the same one who used to play the goofy dad in Malcolm in the Middle.

(25,257 posts)I also watch a lot of documentaries. My favorite documentary is: Jazz by Ken Burns. I've also watched most of the American Experience videos.
Documentaries are a mixed bag. Some are nothing more than lame attempts at people watching, others can take an obscure topic and make it fascinating.
