If you have or know of a dysfunctional family, you will sit through 5 seasons saying, "Oh yeah. Been there done that." Still, this is a series with an excellent cast and probably worth spending some time with. They seem to have been ill prepared for having been cancelled at season 5, but when you start repeating story arcs, it's time to quit. And how many illegitimate children can one family have before it gets boring?

(1,262 posts)I watched three seasons of this hoping it would get better. Good production values. Good actors. Plenty of California wine. I finally stopped watching it. There's a limit to how much I can care about the trite problems of rich pretty white people. The drama never soared. Not once. Oh well.

(9,696 posts)Agreed Rob Lowe is nice eye candy, but the French Guy (can't remember his name) is about as close to perfect as they get.
Watch for the swimming pool scene...
The French guy is sexier, but for sheer perfection of composite parts, Lowe wins in my book.

(9,696 posts)By the third season I was yelling at the tv...if I hadn't been recovering from surgery would not have lasted through the 4th season - which was pretty bad.
There was a lot of good parts of the show, like you say, good production values, and Sally Field can act circles around anyone. It's a credit to her how much I disliked her character. And loved that it had a gay guys story line.
Oh well, so much good, so muddled.
