Doc Martin looks good. Just watched the first episode.
Doc Martin
Crippled by a sudden -- and altogether inconvenient -- fear of blood, flashy surgeon Dr. Martin Ellingham (Martin Clunes) abandons his bustling London practice and sets up shop as a country doctor in this medically minded British sitcom. At first, he's a source of irritation for the ailing locals, including a pretty teacher (Caroline Catz) who catches his eye. But it doesn't take long for the quirky community to feel like home

7. Season 5 seemed a bit...disjointed...to me.
|
a little forced.
It opened at a point which seemed before the ending of Season 4. don't want to give anything away. But overall, still delightfully silly and charming. |

16. I just started watching Season 5
|
and for some reason, I'm a little disappointed. Maybe they did everything with his character that could be done and now I'm finding him a bit irritating. Aside from the baby, it feels like the same story lines.
I love the setting and the characters, so I am enjoying it, just not as much as I did with the previous seasons. Netflix has the two Doc Martin prequels available for streaming now. Doc Martin was originally much more likable. |

18. They are different.
|
There was actually a single show/movie, then the series was developed, so the "prequels" are different in tone.
The whole collection is quite good, and of course US tv rarely matches it. Would say it is worth your time. And worth time to check out William and Mary, another series he did. |

20. I liked them

The characters were different, but the stories were very entertaining. Doc Martin came across as much more vulnerable and sympathetic.

When I first discovered it on Netflix, I'd stay up late at night watching "just one more episode". So many really fun and interesting characters.

8. If you've been missing Doc Martin, I suggest a series with a similar flavor: Kingdom
|
It's about a small-town solicitor named Peter Kingdom (Stephen Fry), who has odd clients, odd relatives, and a family mystery to deal with. The cast includes Hermione Norris (MI-5, Wire in the Blood), Tony Slattery (Whose Line Is It Anyway?), Celia Imrie (you'll recognize her face), and Phyllida Law (Emma Thompson's mother).

I love Kingdom. I wish there had been at least one more season. There was a bit of a cliff-hanger there.

I think Netflix only has Season 1 available for view??? I was so excited when it showed up....I had hoped they had more seasons past 2 but doesn't seem so.

11. There were three seasons of Kingdom
|
All of them (2007-2009) are available for streaming on Netflix. The last season was from 2009 and the last episode ended with the results of Peter Kingdom's blood test. It was a set up for a whole new storyline, but now it is unresolved unless they bring the show. Did you see that one?
Still it is a great show and one I will end up watching again. |

They changed the format. There is a little box that says "Series - 1", but if you click on it, there is a drop down menu that will show 2 and 3.

19. clune says he does not want to do more.
|
He said he was reluctant to do the last season of the series.
The Brits have such a marvelous way of doing ensemble characters, I always want to pick up and move to the village I see on the screen. |

What can we do to change his mind? He was born for that role, and if he got tired of the location, it would be OK with me if he moved his quirky practice to London. Thanks for the update, dixiegrrrl.
