(46,070 posts)Especially if there's a pattern baldness/thinning.
My friend decided she had it with thinning hair and opted to wear wigs.

(548 posts)Is your hair falling out? Could be low thyroid ... Most women suffer from that these days...

(102,205 posts)Nutritional supplements like Biotin and MSM and the like probably won't do much unless you were deficient to begin with. Obviously the best diet possible, exercise and all the rest is important.
If you have all over thinning and loss, you might want to check with your doc regarding thyroid function or to see whether your loss might be amenable to Minoxidil.(only works for androgenic hair loss).
Dare I mention hormone replacement therapy (specifically estrogen). I'm sure you are quite aware of the downsides to this, but if you are a "candidate" for other reasons, improved hair growth is likely to be one pleasant side effect.

(53,661 posts)Poor blood circulation to the scalp muscles, starving the roots. All of those things can cause hair loss.

(53,661 posts)Toss it into smoothies at times... Know it's good for face and hair but I dread having to rinse it out of my hair. Thanks for encouragement, I only use natural things.

(1,367 posts)After six months of use, complete reversal. My hair is thicker than it was in my 20's.

(130,861 posts)especially after other kind responders didn't provide me with any silver bullets! Do you know cause for your thinning? Mine could be any of those suggested.
AND as 50th high school reunion is in September, timing sounds good.
edit: any side effects, itchy scalp, facial peach fuzz? For women liquid? Foam?

(111,237 posts)It works better on people under 40. It won't grow hair on a receding hairline and it won't reverse pattern baldness. It does its best job on thinning hair.
It's a liquid and you apply it twice a day. If you scratch your nose, you won't grow a mustache, it won't grow hair where it's not supposed to grow.
The best thing for thinning hair is a short, layered haircut that gives the illusion of body and a lot more hair. However, Rogaine helps too.

(130,861 posts)No receding hairline, I think, and no pattern baldness that I can detect, just overall thinning.
NOT possible to layer this 'hair,' just not enough to work, imo.

(1,367 posts)I use the liquid every day. My problem started when my Doctor reduced my replacement meds (hormones) to the minimum.
elleng
(130,861 posts)MAY have been after I quit hormone replacement rx, lots of years ago.
So you place some amount on your scalp every day, like after brushing teeth, it dries easily? Any odor? THANKS for this info; looking forward to HAIR again!

(1,367 posts)it does offer some texture the the roots line of your hair, which helps with the fullness.

(130,861 posts)Think I'll pick some up tomorrow.
You need how much? Lasts how long? Best price where?
broiles
(1,367 posts)You have to keep using it. I don't know where the best prices are. I went to CVS, but if you find better prices let me know.

(130,861 posts)Did see some advertised on-line. High school reunion last weekend of September, so there's hope, right???
elleng
(130,861 posts)You use it twice, or once a day?
broiles
(1,367 posts)Now I just use it once a day.

(21,054 posts)If nothing works...go for a very short haircut, IMO. Easy to care for and stylish.
My hair has gotten thinner as I aged, too...but...I had so much hair, it really does not matter that much. Used to have too much hair for ponytail clips, etc. Now...no problem. It's about the right thickness. But...if I had had average thickness in hair, I most likely would be asking for the same help.
Hope you enjoy your reunion and best of luck.
Edit to fix grammatical error.

(130,861 posts)Now hairs won't even cover my ears, and any 'style' vanishes with the least breeze.
Daughters have 'too much hair,' I don't think I ever did.
Thanks.

(130,861 posts)SERIOUSLY thinking of starting rogaine. Just visited a dear high school classmate friend, and took pictures of us; hoped to use for fb so friends could see us, but SO unhappy with the pics, not using them. Also older daughter married in September, hate pics of me, and younger daughter will probably marry within next year or so, and can't STAND feeling that my appearance isn't what it should/could be. Never have been very concerned about my appearance, but I am now.

(12,051 posts)very best -- same color, similar style, but more hair on the wig.
I also have thinning hair and never had much hair to begin with anyway. I will just live with it, but I can certainly understand wanting to look your best at your kids' weddings!
elleng
(130,861 posts)but did wake thinking I'd ask my daughter, whose hair is long and thick and my color, if she ever decides to cut it, do it in such a way that I could have hair piece made; might put it in pouf/twist on top of my head like Grandma.

(22,756 posts)and I opted to shave mine all off before it went by itself... one of the best decisions of my life!

(21,642 posts)No surprise, as her dad was bald. She's decided not to give a shit--wigs are hot and not worth the nuisance to her.
