Most single payer countries don't allow families to decide if a person can go on ventilators in the ICU for as long as the doctors can keep the body alive. In most countries with single payers the doctors can tell the families "no we are very sorry but there is nothing more we can do". Someone with stage 4 cancer with all of their organs failing is not going to be cured by mechanical ventilation when they have utilized all of the cancer treatment options and nothing works. There is a limit to the amount of chemotherapy, radiation and surgery doctors can do. If you want to call me pro death panel so be it. I am a hospice nurse. I see a lot of death including families who sign their loved ones out of hospice and it gets ugly.
I realize all the other things the guy in the video said is true. But, he did leave out a major point.
If the government wants to save some big bucks, they should invest in improving end of life care.
