Navy extending paid maternity leave

AAUW Cheer of the Week

Earlier this week, Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus announced his proposal http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/USA-Update/2015/0513/Is-the-US-Navy-leading-the-way-on-maternity-leave-video which would extend the length of paid maternity leave offered to female sailors from the current policy of six weeks to twelve weeks. To be enacted however, the proposal requires Congressional approval. We applaud the Navy for taking steps to improve the quality of life for our servicewomen and hope this is the start of a trend for all of the armed forces!
