A review of costly building regulations governing Virginia abortion clinics will wrap up its public comment period today, a 45-day phase that has drawn thousands of messages from supporters and opponents across the commonwealth.

~snip~

Republicans, aided by pro-life Democratic state senators, pushed through a bill in 2011 that reclassified clinics that perform five or more first-trimester abortions per month as a category of hospitals and applied new architectural restrictions to them.

Without favorable court rulings, amending the 2011 law is the only way to preclude repeated changes in the clinic regulations. Comments can be submitted through today at this link: http://townhall.virginia.gov/L/comments.cfm?periodicreviewid=1316

Absent court intervention or rewrites to the law, the commissioner and board members should revert to the initial regulations that grandfathered existing clinics.
