Presidents guest includes Prop 8 financial backer and professional bigot for Easter prayer breakfast

Last edited Mon Apr 9, 2012, 10:47 PM USA/ET - Edit history (1)

I just don't get it. Why does the President invite people to the white house to partake in this when they are anti-gay bigots? McPherson gave $25,000 to the Prop 8 campaign, but yet we have the President having this man as a guest to an Easter event with our tax dollars.

Some needs to let the President know every time he cozies up with bigots they he is giving them credibility in the news and the public. Next time lets hope he invites a minister that is not divisive.

SAN DIEGO - The Rock Church Pastor Miles McPherson returned to San Diego after joining President Barack Obama at The White House for a breakfast.

“It was kind of surreal because he was so regular and so down to Earth," said McPherson. "I kept reminding myself that this is the President of the United States and you're at The White House. This is a big deal.”

He and his wife were invited along with about 150 other faith leaders from various denominations across the nation for the Third Annual White House Easter Prayer Breakfast.

McPherson, a former defensive back for the San Diego Chargers, said he talked sports with the leader of the free world.

4. Yeah really.

I about wanted to vomit when I heard professional bigot and prop h(8) religious backer Rick Warren gave a speech at the inauguration - it seems things haven't changed much.

6. Oh, I think the signals are pretty fucking clear

He started sending them on day one, literally, of his presidency, and he's been sending them ever since.

8. It's troubling

The UCC denomination supports gay equality and I don't know why the President invites the preachers of hate to any events. I also attend a church that works for gay equality and it's in their statement of purpose. I also have been told that if I attended a DOC church in very conservative areas I wouldn't recognize the sermons and attitudes of those attending. I would walk out of any place of worship that doesn't believe in equality. I may be very naive but I just don't get it.
