The real Rachel Maddow, her life so far, her new book
Ok, I haven't posted a thread here on this forum, (I think), before today. But I just had to share something with you all, which really moved me, as a gay person living in Rachel's area.
Terry Gross, the host of NPR's "Fresh Air" radio show, had Rachel Maddow on for a 45 minute radio interview today. I listened to it on the car, and played it again on the podcast link again when I got home.
I am so impressed by this woman, as I am sure many of you fellow DU members may already be. But this interview went further than just a talk about her book, and the serious topic of her book.
There's lots of biographical material here, including not only her being discovered by radio, but also her coming out at 17, and her bouts with depression, and how she faces them head-on.
It's an uplifting and penetrating interview, revealing her approach to interviewing people with whom she disagrees, and why she treats them as allies in the realm of both being interested in politics.
Here's the link to the audio interview. If you don't have 45 minutes, skip forward ten or fifteen minutes to see how she puts together her show, how she deals with opponents of gay rights, and hear her story of her last 10.5 years since 9/11/2001.
I think this interview tells us more about Rachel than we have known so far, and gives us some of the reasons for her success at MSNBC and in the world.
If you come upon this thread after Tuesday, March 27, just look around. Otherwise, just click on the "listen to the full show".
Or try to play it here::

6. Rachel must be in the two weeks of PUSH for her book...
She has appeared on several shows, (not only just about every show on MSNBC, but NPR and others).
What I'd love to see is for Brian Lamb of C-SPAN to feature her and her book on his interview shows which normally air on Sunday nights at 8 PM.
Brian cares a lot for what US policy is, and Rachel certainly has a great book for his show, (not to mention what she has previously researched on AIDS, etc., as part of her doctoral research).
I think that would be an interesting show, one more I'd want to record. I think she's just one of the most persuasive and excellent writers, and she has a lot to offer American thinking minds. I picked up the book this week from a local book store, it's a great read!
Someone, message me if you see that she and her book is going to be featured on C-SPAN sometime. I would just enjoy how Brian Lamb would interview her. He has a wonderful style to his interviews.
