I must rant!

And this seems to be the only safe place on DU to do it.

I am so angry at how many "experts" on homophobia have suddenly popped on this message board since yesterday's shooting.

They are so knowledgeable about homophobia and Islam that they forget to mention or notice the ingrained homophobia in every day American life perpetuated by people of all walks of life.

I want to shove their straight privilege where the sun don't shine.

2. I'm sorry that's happened. I'm pretty much focusing on the gun angle.

But I seem to find find myself angrier today than I was yesterday and my tolerance for BS is lower than normal.

Congrats on the Penguins win

I too can't stand the idiocy and bigotry against the LGBT community. It seems that somehow there is a segment of the population that can't exist without finding some group to hate. Whether it is black, LGBT, Muslims, the Italians, the Irish, the Chinese, someone, anyone, to hate, hate, hate. I weep over the intolerance and the hatred. And my blood pressure soars when they then have the absolute gall to call themselves Christian.

Just know there an awful lot of straight folk who are on your side, who believe that who you love is for you to decide and simply hope for you to be happy. And they hope for a day when we can somehow get rid of the hate and actually follow the teachings of Jesus (whether you are a Christian, Muslim, Pastafarian, or whatever) who said, 'love your neighbor as yourself'.

7. There's a quote I keep saying on my facebook wall that honestly resonates with me.

"I hate the word 'homophobia'. It's not a phobia; you're just an asshole". I think it's attributed to Morgan Freeman, but still. I honestly love how people want to politicize everything about LGBT peoples, and then demand(yes, demand) that this isn't politicized, that people are getting assmad over it. Oh, I'm not supposed to stand in solidarity with my brothers, sisters, and fluid people over this? For fucking real?

8. Heterosexism...the one "privilege" we aren't supposed to acknowledge or discuss.

I am beyond disgusted with the number of people who "knew" he was gay before any such assertions were made. Then came the excuses. The homophobic remarks, the heterosexism, and the straight-splainin' going on here is disgusting!

and we all know what happens if we try and point any of this out or have a debate about it.
