Breaking: Arkansas Supreme Court Refuses To Halt Same-Sex Marriages

Late Friday, Pulaski County Circuit Judge Chris Piazza ruled a ban on same-sex marriage violated the Arkansas and federal Constitutions, and struck down the law. Saturday morning, same-sex couples lined up and began marrying. Moments ago, the Arkansas state Supreme Court denied a request from Dustin McDaniel, the attorney general of the state of Arkansas to stay the judge’s ruling and halt any further issuance of marriage licenses to same-sex couples.

Over 450 couples have married since Saturday.

Arkansas has 75 county, yet almost all have ignored the judge’s ruling. At most, five counties have issued licenses to same-sex couples, but now only two are.

“The vast majority of the state’s counties refused to grant licenses, saying the Supreme Court needed to weigh in,” THV11.com reported. “McDaniel said a stay was necessary because clerks did not know whether they were obligated to issue licenses.”
