So yesterday...

Last edited Sat Feb 23, 2013, 08:20 PM - Edit history (1)

I told the first person face to face that I was transgender. After thirty plus years of keeping those feelings a "dirty little" secret.

It went well, I made a good choice in whom to tell. Turns out she already had a friend who was transgender, who had gone through most of reassignment, but near the end had a bad reaction to a drug or procedure and had to stop. Life is cruel and tragic sometimes.

She made me promise to tell my psychiatrist as soon as possible and I agreed. There is still much work to be done before I even consider doing something about reassignment.

A goodly part of my coming out was from hanging out here. So thank you to you all, even if you didn't know you were helping me out, you were.

It's a scary world still, but there's no turning back. I know I will lose friends and family over this and that will hurt, but as they say "I just gotta be me."

That's all for now and Thank you again.

4. you are brave

I think every transgender person who comes out
breaks terrifying ground for many others. May
you have all the courage you need and all the support
and love you can handle, more even.

5. Please remove the connection...

Between your little secret and the notion of it being dirty. It most certainly is not dirty.

Now *my* secrets are dirty

9. Thank you for pointing that out

I did not mean that it was a dirty little secret, it just felt like one to me. So I added quotes.

Why it felt like one is because the way I was treated growing up. To admit that I wanted to be a girl would have been the most unthinkable of crimes to my peers. I got enough abuse from them thinking I was gay or whatever.

Kids can be vicious little predators and any supposed weakness would have been savaged.

7. One of my employees came out to me in the early 90's . It was

an honor to be able to help ease the process at our workplace.

10. Congratulations!

I can only imagine how scary, but how much of a relief this has been. It is wonderful you found someone who can be supportive. May you find many more to be with you in your journey.
