Amazon.com is no longer selling a controversial calendar by antigay cartoonist Joe King after several bloggers and LGBT organizations lobbied the online retailer to pull the item.
The calendar, "I'm Not Gay, I'm Just a Sissy: 12 Months of Sexual Confusion," was also pulled from Barnes & Noble on Wednesday. Amazon.com has not commented, but the item is no longer available. As of Thursdy, more than 800 people gave 1-star reviews to King's calendar, condemning the sale of the item, and asking for it to be pulled from Amazon.com.
The self-proclaimed "Christian Cartoonist's," illustrated calendar shows stereotypical images of LGBT people, specifically gay men and transgender women, according to the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation. The calendar also mocks people living with HIV and AIDS.
Daily Kos reports that after the calendar became subject to a petition for removal, King took to his Facebook page to sound off.

(9,612 posts)I contacted her saying that because of their carrying their calendar I was pulling everything that I wrote and had rights to off of Amazon, including my novels and the five "New Adventures of Queen Victoria" books.
When she asked what the big deal was, I said "would you carry a book entitled 'I'm Not Hispanic, I'm Just Lazy?'"
I swear that was followed by about 10 seconds of pure silence on her end before she said she would kick it upstairs to the person I would need to speak with. I'm still waiting for a call-back from him.
I don't know if I enlightened or offended her. Either way it needed to happen.
I also reported the site he sold the calenders from to the abuse department at his hosting provider as being against their "no hate speech" policy. Haven't heard back on that one yet.

(56,177 posts)I have to admit I'm sort of curious to see the whole thing...it would really piss me off, I'm sure...just the cover does...but viewing the calendar would be an interesting insight into a warped tiny mind.

(67,104 posts)He says: "The "truth" is that AIDS is an "elective" disease. It STOPS the day guys quit sticking it to each other. And for the tragedy of women and children infected... THAT stops the day their gay husbands and fathers stop cheating on them. Anyone need MORE education, science or funding to understand THAT?"
How absolutely ignorant!!! It's not a gay disease, anyone can get AIDS and hetros spread it just as much.
