Rest in Peace, Scrappy: 2000-2012

Alex and I had to send our beautiful dog Scrappy to his next life Thursday.
Scrappy had been suffering from cancer, and for the last few days had been getting progressively worse - not eating much, little control of bowels, and very tired.

I took Scrappy for his last walk, and we spent time with him before taking him to see the Vet.

Scrappy has been in my life for four years, since I started dating Alex. He quickly won his way into my heart, and would spend hours at my side having me scratch his ears.

Alex is particularly devestated. He has had Scrappy for 12 years, since he was a puppy. There were many times in Alex's life when Scrappy was all he had.

Link is to short video I took of our boy getting a treat. At the end, he had problems walking on the wood floors, so I had put down non-stick runners throughout the house so he could get around.

Been tough first thing in the morning. As soon as Scrappy heard me in the kitchen, he was there, wanting breakfast.

3. I am so sorry

I hate that trip to the vet, it brings tears to my eyes whenever somebody tells their story of having to do it.

Every time I've done it I've sworn off of pets for good.

That usually lasts a few months and then away I go again when someone shows me a sad little victim of neglect.

4. I'm so sorry, dbackjon. I'm sitting at my desk at work in tears

I lost 2 feline members of my family to old age (1 was 19, the other 20) within 3 weeks of each other in May. They snuggle their way into your heart and soul, and will remain there forever. My heart breaks for you and your family.

7. I am sorry for your loss.

This isn't much, but may it bring you solace.

Rainbow Bridge

There is a bridge connecting heaven and earth
It is called Rainbow Bridge because of its many colours

Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge there is a land of meadows,
hills, valleys with lush green grass

When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this special place
There is always food and water and warm spring weather

The old and frail are young again
Those who are maimed are made whole again

They play all day with each other
There is only one thing missing

They are not with their special person who loved them on Earth
So each day they run and play until the day comes
when one suddenly stops playing and looks up !

The nose twitches !
The ears are up !
The eyes are staring !
And this one suddenly runs from the group !

You have been seen, and when you and your special friend meet,
you take him or her into your arms and embrace
your face is kissed again and again,
and you look once more into the eyes of your trusting pet

Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together, never again to be separated

14. I don't even believe in heaven but that poem & pic still makes me tear up every darn time

I guess it's just the thought of seeing all my beloved kitties again that gets to me...

We need a pet smilie!

12. So sorry to hear

To us LGBT people, our furkids are our kids. Losing one is devastating. HillbillyBob and I grieve with you.

16. the worst thing about pets is that they die. The best is the memories they leave

We have wonderful memories of the cats and dogs that have called our house their home
Our sincere sympathies.
Here is hoping you can open your home to another companion.

22. Condolences, dbackjon

I'm still hurting from Nikko's passing 11 days ago, even though his "brother/lover" Charlie is still with us.
Charlie's having to adjust to being on his own during the day. Nikko shared everything, Charlie was always jealous when Nikko got attention. Now Charlie has no-one to be jealous of and isn't sure how to react.
